Chapter 512: The Same Routine

Chapter 512: The Same Routine

The next day, before dawn, Zhou Chang opened his eyes.

It was also a groggy night, half asleep and half awake.

I got up quietly. The pair of red dragon and phoenix candles on the table were only half burned, but were still shining brightly on the table.

There was no sound coming from the bed curtains a few steps away, probably because Yuan Yun was still sleeping soundly.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Zhou Chang tiptoed to put on his shoes, straightened his clothes, and quietly left the bedroom.

As soon as I opened the door, the matchmaker, nanny and maid who were guarding the door came to greet me.

This gave Zhou Chang the illusion that the wedding night had not even passed.

In order to cover up, she had to ask: "What time is it?"

"Your Highness, it's just past the hour of Yin." A short and fat maid who was the most well-dressed came up to answer first.

Zhou Chang knew something about this. This was Yuan Yun's wet nurse. Her surname seemed to be Sun. She came with Yuan Yun when she got married and would take care of Yuan Yun's affairs in the future.

Nanny Sun was short and fat like a pumpkin. She bent her knees as if she was sitting on the ground, but she always had a smiling mask on her face, showing nothing unusual.

Zhou Chang secretly breathed a sigh of relief, but when he looked up at the sky, he realized that it was too early in the inky night, so he planned to go back to the study to catch up on some sleep.

As he walked out, Nanny Sun and others followed him.

Zhou Chang had no choice but to stop and turn around: "You don't have to stay here, go down and rest if you need to."

"Where are you going, Your Highness? Do you have any instructions for us to do for you?" Nanny Sun asked with a smile.

Zhou Chang couldn't help but hear the voice-over, so he put on a serious face and said, "Go wherever you want to go. Don't follow me."

Nanny Sun was frightened and dared not follow.

Zhou Chang ignored the looks from the servants and walked away.

When I woke up from the bed in the study again, the sky outside was just getting brighter, and I was startled: "Aunt Jing, when did you come in?"

Aunt Jing stood at the head of the bed, wearing a veil that only covered the lower half of her face. The scars on the upper right side, forehead, and corners of her eyes looked like red scorpions crawling on her face.

That was all fine, except that she stared at Zhou Chang's face so closely that it was really scary.

Zhou Chang sat up and calmed his heartbeat: "Aunt Jing, what are you doing so early in the morning..."

Since Aunt Jing's injuries were mostly healed, although she still had to try her best to take care of Prince Yi's daily life, she rarely did small chores personally and never stayed by his bedside so early again.

Seeing that the man had woken up, Aunt Jing took two steps back and said quietly, "It's getting late, Your Majesty. Wash up and eat first. We still have to go to the palace to express our gratitude."

Zhou Chang turned his head and looked out the window. It was still gray outside, so he couldn't help but ask again, "What time is it now?"

Aunt Jing knew exactly what she was thinking, so she didn't need to answer. She just said the same thing: "It's late. It's cloudy today. I'm afraid it will rain during the day."

Zhou Chang had no choice but to get up and ask, "Where's the monkey? Why did Aunt Jing come here so early?"

Before Aunt Jing could say anything, Skinny Monkey came in from outside and brought in a basin, towel and other items for washing.

Zhou Chang simply washed up twice.

After I finished washing up, I looked out the window and saw that the sky was still the same.

Then he asked the skinny monkey, "What time is it now?"

"Your Highness, it is probably past the hour of Mao now." The skinny monkey finally inserted a green jade hairpin into Zhou Chang's hair.

That means at most I slept for less than an hour.

Zhou Chang calculated the time in his mind, his head still fuzzy and he couldn't concentrate. When he looked up, he saw Aunt Jing in the bronze mirror staring at the back of his head with a gloomy face. He couldn't pretend anymore: "What's wrong with Aunt Jing today?"

"What's wrong with the prince? Why is he sleeping in the study again?" Aunt Jing had obviously reached her limit.

"If you want to sleep in the study, then sleep in the study. I did the same last time..." Zhou Chang wanted to act nonchalant and get away with it, but he couldn't continue his words halfway through.

Aunt Jing said sternly, "This Princess Yi is different from the last one. Your Majesty cannot treat her the same way."

Zhou Chang had not slept well the previous night and was irritable. He was very unhappy when he heard this: "How is it different? Is she noble?"

“Whether she is noble or not, I am not qualified to comment, but she is the daughter of the Minister of the Imperial Household. If things are not handled well, the matter will be reported to the palace.” Maybe it was because of the burn scars, but Aunt Jing’s expression became even more frightening.

Seeing that the atmosphere was not good, the skinny monkey slipped out quietly.

Zhou Chang couldn't escape or hide, and he could only coax Aunt Jing and couldn't lose his temper: "Don't worry, Aunt Jing, she's not stupid, I will discuss it with her again."

"What are you discussing? Your Majesty, you have already married princesses twice. How long are you going to wait?" Aunt Jing watched the skinny monkey slip away from the corner of her eye, and spoke without restraint, "Your Majesty, do you really have something to hide? Manager Fu and Doctor Meng are both our own people. Why don't you ask Doctor Meng to come over and take a look..."

"That's not true..." Zhou Chang denied instinctively, "Aunt Jing, please don't think too much. You must have been busy all day yesterday. You don't look well. You should go back and have a rest. Otherwise, I will be worried."

Aunt Jing glanced at Zhou Chang unhappily, and sighed helplessly, "Alas, how can this old servant sleep? People have come to me and said that Miss Yuan cried all night and her eyes are swollen. She can't face people when she enters the palace today, and they want me to think of a solution for her."

"They came to see you in the middle of the night?" Zhou Chang was furious. "Why did they bother you?"

"If not me, who else can you find?" Aunt Jing said faintly, "I haven't prepared breakfast here. The prince will go over to have breakfast with the new princess in a while. Let's coax her into staying here first."

Zhou Chang wanted to disagree, but he didn't want to have a head-on conflict with Aunt Jing, so he had to nod.

"As for consummating the marriage..." Aunt Jing still had more plans to make.

Zhou Chang had already pushed the person out: "Aunt Jing, stop talking. Go back and rest first. Your health is the most important thing. Don't worry about anything. I know what to do."

"How would the prince know... If he really knew, there would be no need for this old servant to come here so early in the morning..." Aunt Jing muttered, and was eventually forcibly sent out by Zhou Chang.

Aunt Jing was sent away, and the skinny monkey sneaked in again.

"Traitor..." Zhou Chang rolled his eyes, but he couldn't really blame him. "Is there anything to eat for breakfast?"

He agreed verbally, but of course he didn't want to go to Yuan Yun to deal with it.

The skinny monkey just shook his head: "What's piled up over there by the Queen's mother are all yesterday's leftovers. I haven't gotten to know the new Queen's kitchen well yet, so there's nothing to eat."

Zhou Chang had no choice, but since he didn't sleep well the whole night, he didn't feel very hungry.

After that, he sat in the room in a daze, just asking about Yuan Yun's progress. When the time came, they went to the palace together to express their gratitude.

Before getting on the carriage, Zhou Chang glanced at Yuan Yun. She wasn't as exaggerated as Aunt Jing described. In fact, if you didn't look closely, you couldn't tell that she had been crying.

But it was obvious that Yuan Yun was unhappy. Even though her wet nurse, Nanny Sun, was beside her and trying to smooth things over with her eyes, it didn't work.
