Chapter 318 - 318
Chapter 318 - 318
Adam threw Deccanus into the room he had just filled with laser fire a moment ago and then dove inside himself as the sounds of the battle raged all around them. He took a moment to regain his bearing as he quickly applied another stimpack to himself due to the damage he took to his ear. He offered one to Deccanus but Deccanus refused, having taken no notable damage yet.The building rocked again with the sound of explosions from outside. It was likely once more Hades as he tore another hole in the back wall allowing more allies to pour inside through the ever weakening breach.
"Deccanus, I'll go left, you go right, help our allies get into the building." Adam ordered quickly. Perhaps splitting up was not the smartest play but the quicker they got more allies inside the faster they would be able to overwhelm the interior defenses.
Deccanus just stared at Adam for a moment and then nodded before getting up and charging off without another word. Adam was quick to follow suit, charging out of the room in the opposite direction of Deccanus. Which just so happened to be the hallway that the semi circular ceiling mirror was set in place for.
However Adam did not even glance up at it, as he took cover on the wall and then popped around the corner, pistol out and ready to fire, his laser rifle put back into his bag for the convenience of close quarters firefights with the pistol. However just as he popped out he was very nearly slashed by the blades of a deathclaw gauntlet from a large hand.
As Adam dodged out of the way and the gauntlet impaled itself into the brick wall of the hallway Adam took in who it was. It was that Hunter. Torusk.
"Torusk?! What are you doing here!?" Adam shouted at him as he quickly looked both ways to avoid getting shot in the back while engaging with this madman, luckily seeing no one else immediately in sight.
"I have already told you, Adam Baxter. You are my prey, and I have come to hunt!" He said as he lunged at Adam again with his deathclaw gauntlet. However Adam was prepared this time and not only dodged but managed to fire a few rounds out of his pistol as he dove to the side.
But while Adam was able to dodge the gauntlet, so too was Torusk able to avoid taking damage from the gun thanks to his mirelurk shell shield. Adam was certain that the shell of a mirelurk was unable to stop a 10mm bullet completely so it had to be reinforced somehow. But he was unsure how. Though this was not the time for such thoughts.
"This is not the time Torusk!" Adam yelled as he whipped out his laser rifle again and began to lay into Torusk with the full might his gun could offer. However, just as before, the shield seemed to somehow be able to absorb the fire coming from the laser to an unnatural degree. But more than that Torusk had a near preternatural ability to predict where the shots would land. Almost as if he could simply see the shots before they were fired. Not a single one of Adam's shots landed on anything but his shield.
Meanwhile Torusk was charging in. Giving Adam no chance to come up with a plan. He slammed into Adam full force, throwing Adam against the wall hard, up against the lockers, denting one inward as he did.
Adam then quickly dove out of the way again as the deathclaw gauntlet came flying through the air and impaling itself into the locker, right where Adam's head had been. Luckily for Adam it seemed that pulling the gauntlet out of the locker was not as simple as it was when he pulled it out of the brick. So once more Adam fired everything that was left in the Energy cell at Torusk.
However once more Torusk was seemingly able to block the shots with his shield in his off hand with an almost casual indifference to Adam's firing.
With the Laser rifle spent and no time to swap in another energy cell Adam threw his laser rifle aside and pulled out his knife, diving in at Torusk.
Just as Torusk pulled his deathclaw gauntlet from the locker Adam's knife came crashing down onto Torusk's shield. While Adam's knife did indeed glance off the shield, he expected that and instead dove under the shield and aimed his knife at Torusk's legs to get a hit in.
Despite being on the ground, or perhaps because of it, Adam was able to get a clean hit on his legs. Or he would have, if his legs were not one of the few armored parts of his body, covered in the repurposed metal of a sentry bot. However Adam's enhanced clone body was fast, had increased hand eye coordination and, at times like these, Adam could swear he was seeing in slow motion. So, with only a bit of loss of speed, Adam managed to plant the knife into Torusk's leg, near the side of the shin, where the armor was clasped together with a leather strap.
As Torusk roared out in pain he brought the shield down on Adam from above hard. It hit Adam in the chest, which was luckily covered in body armor, but that did not reduce the force of the blunt hit. As Adam momentarily reeled in pain Torusk raised the deathclaw gauntlet above his head and then brought it down fast and hard, trying to stab through Adam's head. However Adam moved just as quick. Blocking the blow with his 10mm pistol just barely.
The two seemed evenly matched in strength. Though one might argue that Adam was still physically stronger, after all he was using an awkwardly held pistol to block a twin bladed gauntlet from stabbing him through the eyes without losing ground. Realistically Torusk should have the advantage from a purely positional perspective, however Adam was not losing out against him. Though, the fact Adam was using both hands to maintain pressure on the pistol while Torusk only had one hand pressing down probably had something to do with it too. Still the two seemed at a stalemate for a moment until Adam was able to, just barely, redirect the gauntlet into the ground beside his head and roll off to the side.
In the scuffle Adam lost his 10mm and was running out of weapons, however Torusk was injured while Adam was not. That alone gave Adam the advantage.
The two men stared each other down for a moment before diving in. Adam grabbed the wrist with the deathclaw gauntlet in one hand and put his forearm up against the shield with the other. The two men grappled for position for a few moments before Adam kicked at the leg that still had the knife implanted in it.
Torusk grunted loudly in pain and fell onto his knee as Adam came in to try to slug him in the face, however the shield was able to come up in time to block the punch and instead Adam's hand felt like it broke under the intense wall of carapace and probably metal that the shield was made of.
However Adam did not let the pain bother him as, with his likely broken hand, he pried the shield to the side and then punched Torusk with his other hand.
Torusk was unable to block this one and got sent into the ground backwards hard enough that he hit his head on the ground with a thud. However Adam was not done, he quickly mounted him and put his knee on top of the shield arm to immobilize it and went in for another punch with his still good hand only to find it impaled through the arm by the deathclaw gauntlet. Despite the ballistic weave that Olivia had sewn into the jumpsuit the blade was still able to slice clean through.
Torusk grinned at Adam through a bloody mouth but his smile did not last long as Adam threw his own head down full force, hard enough that when his head collided with Torusk's he heard a crack. There was no telling who's head cracked however, but despite being dazed, so too was Torusk. Adam did not relent. Despite one hand being impaled, and the other being broken. He used the elbow of the broken hand's arm to begin bashing Torusk's face in over and over. Not giving him a moment to breathe or get his bearings.
Blood was spewing from Torusk's mouth with every hit as it splattered itself on Adam's bright blue jumpsuit. But still Adam didn't let up.
Even as he felt the arm that impaled his, the one with the Death Claw gauntlet, begin to lose strength and fall he did not relent, he kept beating the man's face over and over and over and over as he watched the man's violent struggled turn to a weak resistance to none at all. And yet Adam did not relent.
Even after Adam was certain Torusk was unconscious he did not stop beating him down. At this moment Adam saw nothing but the red of the blood that was flying out of Torusk with every new blow. He was not even sure how long he had been hitting him as the world around him faded away and all he was focused on was ensuring this man was no longer a threat to him.
This continued on until he felt a metal claw touch his still impaled arm. Adam swung around, bloodlust in his eyes as he prepared to fight off whoever was behind him only to see Eve staring down at him.
"Honey, I think he's dead." She said somberly.
