Chapter 1060 - 1059: Fight, Fight
The two of them went out together, and outside, it was still Gu Anxi driving the car. They chatted casually, the atmosphere very relaxed, after all, they were very familiar with each other and shared a brotherly bond. After half an hour, the car stopped in front of an upscale restaurant. Chen Ming scratched his head as he looked at it, "Western food, huh? I’m not really used to it. How about I wait in the car for you, Anxi?"
Gu Anxi unbuckled her seatbelt and said flatly, "We’re already here, let’s eat together."
Chen Ming sighed, "I’m really not used to these foreign forks. Don’t blame me if I embarrass myself later."
Gu Anxi smiled mysteriously, "We’re all acquaintances, there’s no way you’ll embarrass yourself."
Hearing this, Chen Ming was puzzled, "Acquaintances?"
"Yeah, you’ll know when we get inside." Gu Anxi, worried that Chen Ming might back out, gave him a gentle push.
As Chen Ming walked inside, he curiously asked, "Who is so important that I must meet them?"
As soon as he finished speaking, he was stunned.
He saw Song Jia.
At this moment, Song Jia was sitting at the dining table, holding a French menu in her hands, serene and elegant. Naturally, her clothes were also quite eye-catching.
A pale yellow long dress with thin straps, waves of long hair cascading over her shoulders which accentuated her fair and delicate skin, along with exquisite features that caught the eye; at least half of the people in the restaurant were looking at her.
Gu Anxi glanced at Chen Ming’s expression, smiled, and then said, "Did you notice anything different about her?"
Chen Ming’s gaze remained fixed for a while before he cleared his throat, "Still the same as before."
Gu Anxi paused, not moving forward, and said softly, "After my mentor left, she didn’t have much life in her, but now she’s enjoying life, doing well at work. Chen Ming, why do you think that is?"
Chen Ming was taken aback and then said in a hushed voice, "Anxi, I don’t have that kind of influence."
Gu Anxi chuckled again, giving him a gentle nudge, "Come on, let’s go eat."
Chen Ming glanced at Song Jia again, hesitating, "It’s two young ladies having a meal together, wouldn’t it be awkward for me, an old man, to join you? Maybe I should just call for takeout in the car, you two would have a better time together."
Before Gu Anxi could speak, Song Jia noticed them and looked over. When she saw Chen Ming, her gaze noticeably sharpened for a moment, as if something pricked her eyes, then she waved at Gu Anxi.
Chen Ming muttered softly, "When did you two get so close?"
Gu Anxi glanced at him, "If I want to, there’s nothing I can’t achieve."
Having said that, she dragged Chen Ming over to where Song Jia was sitting; she sat beside Song Jia, and Chen Ming sat on the other side.
After sitting down, Song Jia glanced at Chen Ming and asked Gu Anxi, "Why is he with you?"
Gu Anxi took a sip of water, "Chen Ming came over on a business trip."
Song Jia had heard Zhou Yunchen mention the project, so she knew a little and didn’t ask further. She just chatted with Gu Anxi. Their relationship wasn’t great, mainly because Zhou Yunchen was involved in between. Now she knew her brother used to like Gu Anxi, not in a sisterly way but in an unrequited way, fortunately, he never succeeded.
They’re distant because of Bo Qing.
Although she’s come to terms with it a bit, acting like Gu Mingzhu, all close and loving, is not something Song Jia can do.
The two of them chatted casually, leaving the job of ordering to Chen Ming. Not understanding the French, he handed it over to Song Jia, taking a big gulp of water, "I don’t understand these foreign letters, you handle it."
Song Jia took the menu, glanced at him, and said in a low voice, "You’ve been following King Jingyao for a few years now, not knowing French, isn’t it a bit embarrassing?"
Chen Ming’s heart was pounding, but he kept a straight face, "Isn’t there Secretary Wang? He’s fluent in eight languages, so I don’t need to be."
Song Jia didn’t respond, just focused on ordering. Occasionally, she and Gu Anxi exchanged words, all in French, which made Chen Ming quite uncomfortable. In retrospect, he should have insisted on waiting in the car and enjoying some takeout, instead of sitting uncomfortably as if in a cell.
While he was feeling terribly awkward, Song Jia finished ordering and handed it to the waiter before continuing their chat.
Gu Anxi was quite concerned about Shen Congwen and asked a few questions. Song Jia thought for a moment before speaking, "Mr. Wang has visited the house twice these past days."
Gu Anxi didn’t speak, just watched her.
At this moment, the waiter brought the pre-dinner wine. Song Jia played with the wine glass, speaking softly, "Mr. Wang wants my brother to return to the office to work for him."
Of course, Gu Anxi had known about this for a long time, but she didn’t expect the proud old brother to lower himself to ask Zhou Yunchen. Old Wang was very proud, which showed that the current situation wasn’t particularly good.
When she mentioned it, Song Jia smiled, took a light sip of her wine before continuing, "However, my brother doesn’t seem interested. His wife is pregnant now, even after the baby is born, An Pu Company will still be unmanageable for a time. He prefers to manage An Pu and be a laid-back person."
Gu Anxi nodded, "That position is indeed too hot to handle."
Song Jia’s fingers gently rotated the wine glass as if she was contemplating something. Gu Anxi remained quietly silent. Indeed, after a long time, Song Jia lifted her lips and said somewhat bitterly, "What he’s giving up is something that many people can’t achieve in their entire lifetime."
Gu Anxi remained silent.
After a long time, she spoke softly, "It’s almost half a year now."
Song Jia forced a smile.
Actually, in these past days, she had come to realize that Bo Qing was indeed killed by Anxi indirectly and directly, but what right did she, Song Jia, have to hate or resent her? In terms of closeness, Gu Anxi was dearer than her, and the Bo Family were even closer blood relatives. This hatred was completely unreasonable, just like her unrequited love for him.
Gu Anxi sighed, "Your brother entrusted me to take care of you, but seeing you in such a somber mood today, I’m afraid to dine with you."
Having said that, she glanced at Chen Ming and winked.
Chen Ming swallowed, forced himself to say, "Actually, the past is the past. What matters is the future."
Song Jia glanced at him, echoing softly, "That’s right, the past is the past, there’s no point in bringing it up."
Chen Ming wished he could bite off his own tongue; this mouth of his was too clumsy. Hadn’t he just erased their past?
But then he thought, wouldn’t erasing it be a good thing? Are you still longing for it?
Chen Ming shut his mouth.
Song Jia continued sipping her pre-dinner wine.
Gu Anxi, watching the show from the side.
How wonderful, sparks flying, yet pretending not to be too familiar, it’s truly interesting.
Fortunately, the waiters soon brought the food. The high-end French cuisine, each portion was so small that Chen Ming’s eyes barely straightened when a somewhat decent-sized steak finally arrived, but even eating it would merely fill the gap between his teeth.
