Chapter 569: Contaminated
Chapter 569: Contaminated
Prayed that one day a miracle would appear. Prayed that someone would finally take her away from this lonely place. As a result, whenever strangers entered the forest, she often helped them.
She guided lost people. She warned them of danger. She even secretly protected some of them.
Then, one day, someone accidentally revealed her identity as a Shiki.
After that, everything changed. More and more people started pouring into the forest.
The once lonely woods became crowded with cultivators.
Honestly, Myra wasn’t angry. Quite the opposite. At first, she felt excited. Happy, even.
After being alone for so many years, seeing so many people arrive made her think they had come to play with her.
There had even been moments when she wanted to reveal herself.
Moments when she almost stepped out from hiding and greeted some of the groups.
Unfortunately, reality proved far crueler than her imagination.
The moment she overheard their conversations, her excitement shattered.
Those people weren’t looking for a friend. They were looking for her to make her their slave.
Some of them even discussed using forbidden methods to forcefully bind her.
Others talked about imprisoning her. A few went as far as discussing dark rituals that would completely destroy her freedom.
Those memories still frightened her. As she thought about those things, she looked toward Lana.
Only Lana had been different from the very beginning. She never treated Myra as a treasure.
She never looked at her with greed. She never talked about capturing her.
Instead, it felt as though Lana genuinely wanted to become friends with her.
That was what made her different. Lana was powerful but also funny, kind, and even intuitive at the same time.
It felt as though she could always understand what Myra was feeling.
Slowly, Myra reached out.
Then she hooked her little finger around Lana’s. A small smile appeared on her face. "Alright."
Her voice was soft but firm. "I’m ready."
Seeing that expression, Lana’s heart softened. She smiled gently.
However, before proceeding, she turned toward Mr. Crow, who was perched on her shoulder. "The medium."
She lifted her jade bracelet slightly. "Does it have a good house inside?"
Mr. Crow immediately rolled his eyes. "How would I know?"
His feathers ruffled irritably. "I’ve never been allowed to enter that place."
Meanwhile, Myra quickly shook her head. "It’s okay."
Her smile was small yet sincere. "You don’t need to worry."
Lana blinked. Myra continued. "Even if it’s a dark place, I can endure it."
A trace of sadness flashed across her face. "I’ve already endured many things before."
Her voice became quieter. "This is nothing compared to that."
The words stabbed directly into Lana’s heart.
For a brief moment, she almost lost the smile on her face.
However, she quickly composed herself. "If that’s the case..."
Her voice became gentler. "Then let’s make this quick."
With that, Lana bit the tip of her finger. A sharp sting spread through her skin. Soon, a drop of crimson blood emerged.
The blood slowly gathered on the tip of her index finger. Without hesitation, Lana pressed it against Myra’s forehead.
The moment her blood touched the little girl’s skin... Boom! A dazzling light erupted.
For a brief moment, both Lana and Myra disappeared within the blinding radiance.
The contract had begun. Several moments later, the light finally faded. The contract was complete.
The entire process had happened so smoothly that it almost felt unreal.
Lana had expected fierce competition. Instead, she had simply talked to a lonely little girl.
If other cultivators found out how easily she had obtained a Shiki, they would probably die from jealousy.
Looking toward Myra, who was now curiously examining everything around her, Lana couldn’t help smiling.
Then she extended her hand. Myra immediately took it. The little girl’s tiny fingers wrapped around hers.
Soon afterward, they followed the Direction Spirit toward Axel’s location.
As they approached, Axel’s furious voice could already be heard echoing through the forest.
Her classmates looked extremely uncomfortable. "I don’t care!"
Axel’s voice thundered throughout the area.
The pressure radiating from his body made everyone’s expressions pale.
"I only care about my niece!"
His eyes were cold. "Either bring my niece back right now, or let me go search for her myself."
The atmosphere became suffocating. Nobody dared speak.
Axel continued. "You can choose either one of those options."
His gaze swept across the crowd. "Otherwise, forget about having me save anyone."
The threat in his voice was unmistakable. "I’ll make sure as many people as possible suffer before I leave."
All of them immediately broke out in a cold sweat. No one doubted his words.
Meanwhile, hearing his protective outburst, Lana felt her heart warm.
A soft smile appeared on her face. Taking a deep breath, she quietly walked forward. "Uncle."
Her gentle voice instantly cut through the tension. "You didn’t need to be this angry."
With that, she stepped behind Axel and lightly patted his shoulder.
Axel was still fuming. His anger had not diminished in the slightest. Hearing someone interrupt him, he immediately turned around.
"What?!"
The word came out almost like a roar. However, the moment he saw who it was, he froze.
The terrifying pressure surrounding him disappeared instantly. The anger vanished from his face. Even his eyes softened.
"Lana?"
For a moment, he simply stared at her. Then relief flooded his expression.
But suddenly, he looked at Lana with a complicated expression, his eyes filled with confusion and disbelief.
"Why did you run toward the ghost portal?"
Lana was stunned for a moment. Then a small smile appeared on her face.
"Uncle, I didn’t leave. I used a teleportation ability at the very last second to make sure I didn’t get trapped inside the Ghost Portal."
Hearing her explanation, Axel frowned. "Really? Because from my perspective, it looked like you were running straight toward the Ghost Portal."
Lana’s brows knitted together. Before she could explain further, she suddenly saw Axel’s body sway. "Uncle!"
His eyes rolled back, and he collapsed without warning.
A flash of panic crossed Lana’s face. She immediately caught him before he hit the ground, wrapping her arms around his body.
His skin felt colder than before, and his breathing had become noticeably weaker. Turning toward her classmates, Lana signaled them.
Betty instantly understood. "Richard! Quinn! Hurry!"
Without hesitation, Richard and Quinn rushed over and helped support Axel’s unconscious body.
As they began leaving the area, Fay murmured,
"It’s all because of Lana. If she hadn’t run away, Axel wouldn’t have ended up like this."
Lana ignored every single word.
’Is there something wrong with her brain?’
The accusations were so ridiculous that she did not even feel angry anymore.
Soon, the group arrived outside the Ghost Zone. Betty glanced at Lana with a hint of guilt.
"Sorry. This is partly our fault. If we hadn’t been there, maybe you and your uncle could have stayed longer, explored the Ghost Zone properly, and maybe even captured the Shiki."
Fay chuckled softly. "If it were that simple, everyone would have already captured a Shiki."
Betty snorted but did not argue further. However, another thought was spinning inside her head.
’How is that even possible?’
Just a while ago, Axel had completely lost control of his emotions and had personally revealed that Lana was his niece.
Now Betty could not stop wondering. ’Could Lana really belong to some upper-class family?’
The possibility seemed more and more realistic. After all, someone as talented and mysterious as Lana could not possibly come from an ordinary background.
The more Betty thought about it, the more convinced she became. Not long afterward, everyone arrived at the vanity vehicle.
Richard and Quinn carefully carried Axel inside and laid him on the bed.
As soon as he was settled, one of them called for the driver. This particular driver was also a healer.
After entering the vehicle, he immediately activated his healing ability. A gentle glow surrounded Axel’s body.
A few minutes later, there was finally some improvement.
The pale color on his face slowly began returning. Lana remained seated beside him the entire time. Perched quietly on her shoulder, Mr. Crow suddenly spoke.
"He looks like he has been contaminated by Ghost Energy."
Lana frowned. "How is that possible? Isn’t Uncle a spirit monarch?"
Mr. Crow shook his head. "You don’t understand the effects of a Ghost Portal."
His black eyes narrowed slightly.
"If a person remains directly in front of a Ghost Portal for more than twenty seconds, it is quite common for them to become contaminated by negative energy."
He glanced toward Axel. "Since he was trying to save so many people, he was probably exposed to a massive amount of Ghost Energy."
Then Mr. Crow paused. A strange look appeared in his eyes. "Actually, there is something I don’t understand."
Lana tilted her head. "What is it?"
Mr. Crow stared directly at her. "Why aren’t you contaminated?"
Lana blinked. "Maybe because I am kind through and through?"
Mr. Crow immediately replied. "No. Not enough to justify what happened."
Lana chuckled. "Maybe I’m just very special, Mr. Crow."
