Chapter 1055 - 1054: You're Actually Quite Human
Chapter 1055 - 1054: You're Actually Quite Human
"Is life so fragile? Yes... such three powerful people, dead just like that."Su Yuanke looked at Chu Ge, a hint of sarcasm tugging at the corner of his mouth, "I really didn't expect that when you took them out, you were so straightforward and efficient. Now you can actually be moved by such things, and come to think of it, it kind of makes sense."
Chu Ge also looked at Su Yuanke, furrowing his brows, "What do you mean by that?"
"Nothing much, just suddenly feel that you're actually quite human, a bit different from how I felt before."
Su Yuanke pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, pulled out two, and put one in his mouth. He offered one to Chu Ge, "Want one?"
Chu Ge took the cigarette, and Su Yuanke lit his own, then handed the burning lighter towards Chu Ge.
Chu Ge looked at the flame and frowned slightly, turning back to glance at the Grand Cherokee, ultimately holding the cigarette in his mouth and shaking his head, "Let's talk later."
"Hiss... Whew..."
Su Yuanke followed Chu Ge's gaze to the Grand Cherokee, taking a deep drag of the cigarette and exhaling forcefully.
"Alright, even if you said that to coax information out of me, deliberately, I'll accept it. Just for that bit of humanity you have. Before I change my mind, ask anything you want to know."
Upon hearing Su Yuanke say this, Chu Ge wasn't exactly overjoyed, but certainly found it better than any other response. He nodded and posed the question that concerned him the most.
"Do you know Chu Shiyao?"
"I wouldn't say I know her, haven't even seen her." Su Yuanke shook his head, took another drag on his cigarette, and continued as he exhaled the smoke, "But I have a friend whose daughter goes by that name."
"Is your friend still alive?"
Su Yuanke was about to take another drag when he heard Chu Ge's question, his hand paused, and he glanced at Chu Ge sideways.
"Why do you ask?"
"Because my friend, Chu Shiyao, said her parents have passed away."
"That little girl sure trusts you, telling you everything." Su Yuanke smiled slightly, "Back in the pharmacy, I suspected that the Chu Shiyao you were discussing was my friend's daughter. Now that you've said this, I'm sure of it."
"When Chu Shiyao's parents passed away, were you the one who called her?"
Su Yuanke was again taken aback, clearly not expecting Chu Ge to know even about this. He was stunned for two seconds before nodding in understanding.
"Yes, it was me."
"Can you tell me what you said to Chu Shiyao then?"
"Sure, I told that little girl her dad's last message to her was not to trust any relatives, and if any approached her, to believe none of their words and distance herself as far as possible."
Su Yuanke's words were almost identical to what Chu Shiyao had said earlier. Chu Ge hadn't expected to inadvertently come across Su Yuanke, who turned out to be a friend of Chu Shiyao's father, even the one who had called her to break the bad news.
As Chu Ge pondered, Su Yuanke continued, "Seems you've already figured this out? What's your relationship with that little girl? She actually trusts you that much?"
"Friends, very good friends, used to be neighbors for a while." Chu Ge paused slightly, somewhat resignedly saying, "Su Yuanke, is your heavy wariness towards me also related to my surname being Chu?"
Su Yuanke chuckled softly, though he said nothing, his expression clearly acknowledging Chu Ge's words.
"Were Chu Shiyao's parents... truly victims of an accident? Or are they really dead?"
"Honestly, I can't guarantee, but the likelihood of them being dead is quite high. And if they really are gone, I don't believe it was an accident."
"That day, when Chu Zheng, oh, I mean Chu Shiyao's father, called me, he sounded very anxious, saying he was in great danger, likely making his final call, asking me to convey his words to his daughter Chu Shiyao, and urging me to leave the city I was in and find a place to hide. Since then, I haven't heard anything from Chu Zheng or them."
Chu Ge found himself overwhelmed, rubbed his brow, pondered, and asked, "So... who wants harm to come to Chu Shiyao's parents? What's the reason?"
Upon hearing Chu Ge's question, Su Yuanke's expression grew noticeably hesitant again. He walked forward silently, lit another cigarette, and took deep, forceful drags, several times hesitating to speak.
Chu Ge did not rush, but patiently waited. After more than a minute, Su Yuanke flicked away his cigarette butt, crushed it underfoot, and finally spoke again.
"If nothing unexpected happens, it's people from Tiancheng Pharmaceutical Group, which means people from the Chu Family. But as for who exactly, I can't be certain. Including the one I dealt with yesterday and the ones who just died by your hand, they should all be under the orders of the same person."
Chu Ge wasn't surprised by this answer. Otherwise, Chu Shiyao's father wouldn't have left such a last message. But there was one thing Chu Ge couldn't ignore.
Even though he prided himself on being calm in most situations, just thinking about this made his skin crawl.
If the "Number Ninety-Nine" trio, who were just taken down, were someone from the Chu Family's subordinates, then... that thing which could significantly enhance a person's strength, speed, and skin toughness, was it also something developed by the Chu Family?
If this thing was indeed developed by the Chu Family, then...
The Frenzy Potion that Jin Haohun and those who died at his hands trying to rescue Li Zheming took, could it have the same source as the one those three used?
Even though those three gained far more enhancements after using the potion than Jin Haohun and the others from South Korea, who could guarantee it wasn't just a more potent version, or that what those South Koreans bought were substandard?
Chu Ge remembered clearly, when he fought with Yuan He, feigned fatigue, and coaxed information from Yuan He, Yuan He had straightforwardly told him that the potion they got was bought from people in Hua Country!
Although Yuan He's words couldn't be fully trusted, in that situation, they were certainly not completely untrustworthy either!
Who was this Hua Country person he referred to? Could it be someone from Tiancheng Pharmaceutical?
If... if this Frenzy Potion could be produced in large quantities and extensively applied, then...
Chu Ge didn't want to think further about it. He furrowed his brows, clenched his fists. What the heck is going on here?
"Lend me the lighter." Chu Ge slowly exhaled, reaching out a hand to Su Yuanke.
Su Yuanke handed over the lighter.
Chu Ge took the lighter, flicked the wheel with his thumb, but despite his strength that could easily crush a brick, the tiny lighter in his hand failed to produce a flame.
Crack, crack, crack
Chu Ge flicked the wheel four times before a slightly flickering flame finally emerged. He lit the cigarette in his mouth, took a deep drag, and returned the lighter.
Su Yuanke took the lighter, about to say something when he suddenly felt something off in the touch. He lowered his head to look, only to find that there were several obvious fingerprints on the lighter.
The fingerprints were about half a centimeter deep, clearly not only had they dented the copper exterior, but even the stainless steel inner lining was pressed down.
Even though Su Yuanke had witnessed the battle between Chu Ge and those three humanoid monsters earlier, at this moment, he still couldn't help but twitch his eye corner, instinctively swallowing.
After all, even though the fight between Chu Ge and those three was fierce, Su Yuanke watched from afar in a taxi. He couldn't begin to imagine the force Chu Ge needed for each slash, nor how resilient the skin and muscles of those three were.
Holy crap... are this guy's fingers really made of flesh and blood? Just how strong is he?
If it were Su Yuanke himself, even with all his might, he might not be able to dent this metal lighter, yet Chu Ge had clearly not intended to do so. The imprints were left entirely subconsciously.
The cigarette burned with a glowing red tip, crackling the tobacco paper it touched. The long-lost taste of tobacco filled Chu Ge's mouth, but he didn't feel the usual comfort and ease of smoking, only that his mouth to his lungs were spicy and slightly bitter, with a hint of dizziness in his head.
Even when he first tried smoking as a kid, he didn't find it this hard to smoke.
A puff of blue smoke was exhaled from Chu Ge's mouth. He pinched his furrowed brow, glanced sideways at Su Yuanke, and posed another question, "Why are you and Chu Shiyao's father being hunted?"
Su Yuanke came back to his senses, "This..."
He paused for a few seconds, raised his hand to rub his temples. It wasn't that he didn't want to tell Chu Ge, but more like he didn't know where to start.
Chu Ge asked again, "Is it because you saw something you shouldn't have? Or knew something you shouldn't have known?"
"Ugh... it's a long story, a long story!" Su Yuanke's face showed a frustrated, bitter smile. Chu Ge's question was spot on. He sighed and added, "Let me start by telling you about Chu Zheng."
Chu Ge nodded. Since Su Yuanke was ready to explain the whole matter, there must be a reason he started with that.
