Chapter 148 Madness

Chapter 148 Madness

"boom!"

A crimson fireball shot out and entered the mutated rat's wide-open mouth.

"Squeak squeak one"

The giant rat immediately let out a mournful cry, rolling and struggling on the ground until its belly burst open, and its cooked internal organs splattered out along with rising white steam.

Before the other rats could feel fear and retreat, several condensed fireballs caught up with them one after another, igniting them into flickering torches. They cried out pitifully, rolling on the damp, muddy ground, but the flames were hard to extinguish, burning relentlessly until they were charred corpses, no longer struggling.

The air was probably filled with the smell of roasted meat, but both of them had their senses blocked and couldn't smell anything.

"Alright, go collect your herbs."

Luze turned around and said to Darkwell.

"Okay, okay..."

Darkwell nodded immediately and hurried to his wooden shelf to harvest the herbs that had not yet been ruined.

As he collected the herbs, he recalled the battle he had just fought.

What amazing fire control!

"Darkwell remarked."

He happened to know that there was a Sequence Beyonder who possessed this ability, namely the Hunter Path, Sequence 7 "Pyromaniac".

I never expected that I would actually hire a mid-level expert!

The thought that his reward was only a few potions and a mere 10 pounds made Darkwell feel guilty, and he harvested herbs much faster. If he knew that Luze wasn't actually Sequence 7, but Sequence 5, one wonders what he would think.

Lu Ze didn't think that much about it, because his main goal wasn't to make money, but to find a way to get in touch with the local circle of extraordinary people.

He looked down to examine the charred bodies of the giant rats.

He had eliminated them too quickly and hadn't observed them carefully. Now, upon closer inspection, he immediately sensed a familiar aura emanating from the body.

Subtle, corrupt, the evil of the true Creator.

He frowned slightly.

Besides the aura of a true creator, the giant rat's flesh and blood contained an even stronger aura. That aura was exactly the same as the one he had encountered when he was dealing with a crazed streetwalker in the mental hospital.

Did Lanius do these rats?

Lu Ze thought to himself, then looked up at Darkwell, wanting to ask him where the nearby sewers were located.

He had just looked up when his previously congested nose suddenly caught a warm, sweet scent. Ms. M was standing next to the wooden shelf.

She smiled at him. Busy Darkwell was completely unaware of the person beside him, diligently tending to the herbs.

Whispers slowly rose in his ears, flooding his mind in layers. In the darkness in the distance, it was as if countless hostile eyes were watching, ready to pounce and ambush him at any moment.

"What are you doing out here?"

Lu Ze said coldly.

He felt his mood rapidly deteriorating, and the frantic words gradually grew louder, filling his ears.

He seemed to have overestimated himself; madness caught up with him sooner than expected.

"what?"

Darkwell turned around in confusion and found Luze staring at the empty void with a ferocious expression.

Ms. M did not speak, but simply smiled.

Lu Ze sneered, pried a clump of flesh from the rat's body on the ground, and threw it towards Ms. M.

"one"

Flesh and blood instantly disintegrated, turning into a large cloud of blood mist that enveloped the area where Ms. M was. The brickwork was then corroded and dissolved, and Ms. M herself was not spared; her flesh rapidly decayed, burning through to reveal her skeleton. Unable to support herself, she collapsed, still raising her right hand, adorned with a red ring, pointing behind him.

She seemed to be warning Lu Ze something.

"Splash—"

As if to confirm her actions, a violent splashing sound immediately rose from the underground river behind Lu Ze.

"what!"

Darkwell, who was already startled by Luze's sudden outburst, suddenly screamed because something was climbing up the river!

Their bodies were wet, and in the firelight, they appeared an unusual pinkish-white—the color of flesh and blood that had been soaked in water for too long after being skinned. Faint traces of clothing remained on their bodies, but their appearance had become far removed from the concept of humanity.

"It's them!"

Darkwell stumbled backward in terror until he crashed into the wooden frame and fell. He recognized these men; they were Horn's henchmen.

Those guys who went into the sewers before them!

How did they become like this?

Are they here to take my life?!

Darkwell was so frightened that he kicked his legs wildly until the muddy water soaked his clothes and a chill brought him back to his senses.

"Hey! Anderson, hurry up and take them down!"

He shouted at the standing "arsonist".

Then, Darkwell watched in despair as the mid-sequence powerhouse seemed to be trapped in a strange nightmare, standing there blankly, his eyes glazed over, muttering something like, "What are you looking at?"

"Anderson! Anderson!"

No matter how much he shouted, the other person did not respond.

The twisted, blood-soaked figures had already climbed up, and in the light of the burning fire, their bloodshot, superfluous eyes gleamed with a greedy thirst for fresh flesh.

"Why did he have to go crazy at this time of all!"

Darkwell cursed and pulled a revolver from his pocket.

"Bang!"

The bullet struck the monster, the gunshot echoing violently through the sewers, but the monster only swayed slightly, leaving a bloody hole in its body.

"hateful!"

After realizing the revolver was clearly ineffective, Darkwell took out a small, dark green vial. He glanced at it with pity, held it in his hand, and tossed it towards the monster.

"Pap!"

The bottle shattered upon hitting the blood-covered figures, and the liquid inside released a cloud of poisonous gas. A bluish-black hue quickly spread across the nearby figures, and the one most affected by the toxic mist took a few more steps before collapsing, its entire body turning bluish-black.

However, the other monsters were only partially affected. Darkwell's actions angered them, causing them to speed up their movements and crawl rapidly towards the living people.

How could that be? That whole bottle contains enough poison to kill ten elephants!

Darkwell was horrified.

"Anderson! Wake up!"

Darkwell was terrified as he watched Luze be surrounded by monsters. He knew that once Luze was eaten, he would be next. Then he saw the monsters suddenly show expressions of terror, their bodies cracking open. Anderson, who had been lost in madness, was jolted back to reality by being touched by the monsters.

"what?"

He looked at the distorted human figures surrounding him, his face showing annoyance.

"puff!"

It was as if a rain of blood was falling from the low sky. He grabbed the monsters one by one and tossed them upwards. Then those ferocious and terrifying limbs, strong enough to withstand bullets and poison, crashed against the dome, exploded, and turned into puffs of filthy fireworks.

Darkwell stared wide-eyed as the "Sequence 7" powerhouse was bathed in this rain of blood, occasionally uttering twisted and blasphemous words: "Offering a sacrifice of flesh and blood for the Lord of shit..."

+

He looked deranged and terrifying.
