Chapter 16 Dealing with and the Seeds of Resentment
Chapter 16 Dealing with and the Seeds of Resentment
On the wall, Kurt, whose consciousness was blurred by excruciating pain and blood loss, struggled to open his eyes wide.
He saw the unprecedented look of terror on Perón's face and heard the question uttered with a mixture of shock and anger.
A feeling of utter absurdity mixed with chilling fear instantly overwhelmed Kurt.
Klara... he... he actually managed to hurt Belon?!
A level three apprentice?!
Was it another witchcraft tool or something else that was used?
The resentment and anger in Kurt's eyes were replaced by a deeper despair.
He realized that he had not provoked any easy prey, but a monster in sheep's clothing, even more terrifying than Belon!
"The Curse of Ice! Do you like it, Senior Beron?"
Seemingly quite satisfied with the effect, Clara smiled as she looked at Belon, who was lying on the ground with a face full of frost.
"K...Kla...Er, I...was wrong, please...have mercy on me, please..."
At this moment, Belon no longer had the confidence he had before; his life force was constantly slipping away, and his face was filled with fear and despair.
Just as Clara was about to say something, a whooshing sound came from outside, along with the sound of footsteps.
Jona's voice, filled with anxiety and tears, pierced through the blood-soaked room:
"Lord Shadow, my brother is in this room! He was forcibly dragged in by that apprentice named Clara! Please, you must save him!"
This cry was like a lifeline thrown into the darkness, instantly igniting a strong will to survive in the eyes of the dying Kurt on the wall!
He even tried to struggle, but the bone spear piercing his shoulder blade and the weakness from blood loss left him only able to whimper in pain.
However, the satisfied smile on Clara's face did not disappear; instead, it deepened with a hint of amusement.
He crouched down beside Perón, his lips barely moving as he whispered a few words rapidly in Perón's ear.
On Belon's frosty face, fear was replaced by an extremely distorted expression, a mixture of resentment and obedience.
He nodded with difficulty and a very small gesture, his eyes still showing a deep fear of Klar.
As Belon nodded, the crystal in Clara's hand moved slightly.
The terrifying frost that had spread throughout Belon's body and drained his life force vanished as quickly as the tide receded, leaving only a bone-chilling cold and a deep-seated weakness.
Belon coughed violently a few times, spitting out blood froth mixed with icy shards, but the deadly feeling of loss finally stopped.
"Buzz—"
Accompanied by a muffled hum of energy, the hard stone door was slowly opened.
A tall, blurry humanoid silhouette made of pure shadow energy floated in first. Its faceless form seemed to turn toward the horrific scene in the room, and a cold, emotionless scanning wave instantly enveloped the entire area.
Immediately afterwards, Jona appeared at the doorway.
The moment I saw the scene inside the room, everything froze and shattered!
Her gaze was first fixed on her brother, Kurt, who was staring intently at the wall, his face as red as a blood-soaked gourd—
The glaring crimson, the contorted posture, the faint groans left her mind blank, and her stomach churned violently.
It must be said that Jona was smart enough to realize that too much time had passed and something was wrong.
She promptly reported to the fully charged Shadow Puppet that her brother had been taken into her room by Klar and might be in danger. As for the specific reason, she said that as long as Kurt was alive, she would always be able to explain it.
Then she followed the shadow puppet here. As for whether Kert was a little late for other reasons, Jona didn't believe it.
Jona believed her brother wouldn't miss their agreed-upon time.
Just like when Jona said that Klar had a treasure, Kurt had no doubts and would make his move that very night.
The shadow puppet's blurry body turned slightly, and its cold scanning waves, like tangible tentacles, carefully swept across every corner of the room:
On the wall is a dying Kurt, with a grotesque bone spear piercing his body.
Belon slowly stood up from the ground, soaking wet, his breath weak but his vital signs intact.
And standing next to Belon, with a perfectly measured expression of surprise and relief on her face.
Before the shadow puppet could even ask any questions, the listless and pale-faced Belon spoke first:
"My lord, it was this Kurt who sneaked into Klar's room late at night. I saw that something was wrong, so I came over and seriously injured Kurt. Klar misunderstood me and used a witchcraft tool, which is why things turned out like this."
This statement could be interpreted as portraying both Clara and Peron as victims, as if it were all Kurt's fault, and that he was the source of all the trouble.
If Kurt weren't currently unable to speak, he would definitely be swearing.
The shadow puppet's body rose and fell slowly, seemingly unmoved by Belon's explanation.
With a slight movement of its shadowy hand, the white bone spear was pulled out by an invisible force.
A chilling power immediately enveloped Kurt, some of which seeped into his battered body.
"ah--!"
As that power was injected, excruciating pain, like being sliced into a thousand pieces, surged forth! Kurt let out a shrill scream, completely lost consciousness, and collapsed to the ground.
"elder brother!!!"
Jona cried out and rushed over to her.
"Cluck...cluck...cluck..."
The shadow puppet seemed quite pleased with the results of its "healing," its shadows swirling and emitting eerie, laughter-like sounds.
Witnessing Kurt's miserable state, Peron seemed to recall his own experience of being "treated," and couldn't help but shudder.
Jona noticed that Kurt's external injuries had healed, but his face was ashen, clearly due to excessive blood loss.
"Thank you, sir!" She suppressed her emotions, dragged the unconscious Kurt to her feet, and bowed to the shadow puppet.
The shadow puppet waved casually, turned, and drifted away.
Jona followed closely behind, dragging Kurt along with her. In her lowered eyes, resentment and hatred were like poisoned daggers.
She felt no remorse whatsoever about competing with her brother for Clara's possessions.
Her brother's near death only ignited a raging fire of anger and a deep-seated hatred in her heart.
"Klara! Belon! You just wait!" This silent vow roared wildly in her heart.
The shadow puppets did not handle the situation on the ground; their main responsibilities were to keep the apprentices from wandering around in the wizard tower and to heal them.
The apprentices in the Wizard Tower are one of the Wizard Tower's resources, and they cannot disappear or die without a reason.
That would be meaningless to the Wizard Tower.
The Shadow Puppet is the bottom line for ensuring the safety of the apprentices. If they can kill the others without alerting the Shadow Puppet, they must do so.
Unless it's someone important, the Wizard Tower won't even bother to investigate.
Watching Jona's departing figure, Clara's expression remained unchanged; she simply found it amusing.
Behind him, Belon, with his head bowed, revealed endless resentment in his eyes.
