Chapter 12 Supernatural events really exist!
"Captain Wang, I have something to report."
"explain."
"That case from yesterday, the one involving a car hitting someone in an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the city. I looked into it and found something amiss."
There was a two-second silence on the other end of the phone: "What's wrong?"
"The female anchor who was hit, Jiang Yu, she... she blocked the car." Pan Hui carefully chose her words. "She blocked it with her body. The front of the car was completely wrecked, but she's okay. I've watched the video from the scene repeatedly, and I didn't find any signs of tampering."
Team Leader Wang's voice carried a hint of impatience: "Xiao Pan, have you been staying up late again? What do you mean by blocking the car with your body? That's just an online gimmick, faked to get clicks. You actually believed it?"
"But Captain Wang, that case involved a death, and the victim's family will definitely be investigating. We need to find out exactly what happened..."
"Alright, alright," Captain Wang interrupted her, his tone clearly impatient. "Xiao Pan, let me tell you, our criminal investigation team has limited resources to deal with these kinds of internet celebrity hype. You should go home and rest, don't get hung up on this. That video is just special effects; those people online love watching this kind of thing, don't join in the gossip."
"Captain Wang, I didn't instigate anything; I carefully analyzed the evidence..."
"Alright, don't worry about this anymore. Bye."
The phone went dead.
Pan Hui held the receiver, stunned for several seconds.
She slowly put down the phone, leaned back in her chair, stared at the ceiling, and felt a tightness in her chest.
Pan Hui took a deep breath, turned off the computer, and packed her things to leave work.
Stepping out of the municipal bureau building, the evening breeze carried a hint of coolness.
Pan Hui took a deep breath, temporarily putting the case out of her mind, and headed towards the subway station.
She lives in a neighborhood in the old town, which requires crossing two relatively busy streets.
Just as she reached the second street, one block away from the subway station, something unexpected happened.
"Bang! Bang!"
Two sharp gunshots suddenly rang out from the direction of a bank on the street corner, followed by a woman's scream and a crowd running in panic.
"Robbery! Bank robbery!"
"There are guns! Run!"
The crowd surged toward Pan Hui like a hornet's nest that had been blown apart.
Pan Hui felt a chill run down her spine. Her professional instincts instantly overwhelmed her fatigue from getting off work. She moved against the flow of people, quickly approaching the scene of the incident, while simultaneously taking out her phone to call the police and identify herself.
At the bank entrance, three thugs wearing black woolen hats with only their eyes showing rushed out. Two of them were carrying bulging bags, and the third was holding a shotgun with its barrel sawed off.
They seemed unprepared for so many pedestrians outside and were momentarily flustered. One of the gunmen fired another shot into the air.
"Get out of here! Get out of here if you don't want to die!"
The screams grew louder, and the crowd became even more chaotic.
A female employee in a bank uniform appears to have been shoved to the ground, very close to the assailant.
The gunman's eyes hardened, and he grabbed her hair, pulling her up from the ground. The cold barrel of the shotgun was pressed against her temple.
"Don't come any closer! Get me a car! Now!" the thug roared hoarsely, his eyes bloodshot, clearly ready to go all out.
Pan Hui's heart sank to the bottom.
She hid behind a utility pole, observing quickly. There were three criminals, armed, and a hostage.
It would take time for nearby patrol officers to arrive, and the other party was extremely agitated.
She only had a service weapon, but she wasn't confident she could kill or subdue the armed assailant without harming the hostages, and her two accomplices also posed a threat.
Soon, police officers from the nearby police station and special police arrived at the scene after receiving the report. They quickly evacuated the crowd further away, set up a cordon, and the verbal communication team began negotiating with the perpetrators.
However, the perpetrators were agitated and the demanded car could not be delivered immediately. The hostages were trembling with fear, and the situation reached a stalemate.
Pan Hui revealed her identity and was allowed to enter the vicinity of the inner perimeter cordon.
She looked at the female employee with a gun pointed at her head, tears streaming down her face, and then at the several thugs who seemed to have gone mad; her palms were sweating.
The sniper was in position, but the angle was poor. The criminal was cunning, keeping the hostage in front of him while hiding most of his body in the shadows of the bank's entrance.
Time ticked by, and the assailant's patience wore thin. He began to smash the hostage's head with the butt of his gun, and the hostage let out painful screams.
"Where's the car! Damn it! If it doesn't come soon, I'll kill her first!" the gunman roared.
The deputy director in charge of the on-site command was sweating profusely, urging everyone on in a low voice through the walkie-talkie. Everyone's hearts were in their throats.
Just then, unnoticed by anyone, a young girl dressed in simple sportswear, with her hair in a ponytail, carrying a bag of steamed buns and soy milk, walked out of a breakfast shop on the opposite street corner, seemingly having just bought breakfast.
She glanced at the tense situation at the bank entrance, paused for a moment, and then, unlike other passersby who panicked and ran away, she stopped and stood quietly a few dozen meters away from the police line.
Pan Hui caught a glimpse of the girl out of the corner of her eye and thought she looked familiar, but couldn't quite place her.
The assailant, seemingly driven mad by the delayed arrival of the car, shoved the hostage forward, pointed the gun at her back, and yelled at his accomplice, "That's it! Charge out! Kill anyone who gets in our way!"
As he spoke, he actually fired a shot into the hostage's calf! Although it wasn't a live bullet, the powerful impact and excruciating pain caused the hostage to scream and fall to the ground.
"Action!" Upon seeing this, the on-site commander knew that they could not wait any longer and immediately ordered a full-scale attack.
But the assailants moved faster! The gunman and his accomplice, brandishing a shotgun and a machete, were about to rush out! The female employee who had fallen to the ground was right at their feet and could easily be trampled or shot again.
At the critical moment!
The girl carrying breakfast moved.
Her movements were faster than anyone could react! She didn't run; she was like a blurry shadow, instantly covering dozens of meters! One second she was outside the police line, the next she was at the bank entrance, between the criminal and the hostage!
The gunman only saw a blur before his eyes, and before he could understand what was happening, a piercing pain shot through his wrist, and the shotgun had already changed hands!
Immediately afterwards, he felt as if he had been hit by the side of a speeding truck. He was thrown off the ground and slammed hard into the ATM next to the bank with a loud crash. The alloy casing dented, and the robber passed out without even uttering a sound. He had broken countless bones.
Another thug wielding a machete felt his wrist being clamped by iron clamps as soon as he raised the knife. With a crisp crack, his wrist bone shattered, and the machete clattered to the ground. Before he could even feel the pain, he was struck heavily in the abdomen, his stomach churning. He collapsed to his knees and vomited.
The last thug was terrified!
All of this happened in the blink of an eye! From the moment the girl started the attack to the moment the three thugs collapsed and lost their ability to resist, it took less than three seconds!
The scene was deathly silent.
Everyone was stunned, including the police officers who were about to charge in, the on-site commander, and Pan Hui.
The wind blew across the street, swirling up a few fallen leaves.
This girl is Jiang Yu!
She bent down and gently helped up the female employee who had injured her leg and was terrified.
"It's alright, Auntie, don't be afraid." Jiang Yu's voice wasn't loud, but it could be clearly heard on the quiet street.
Only then did the surrounding police snap out of their daze, rushing over to subdue the unconscious perpetrator and rescue the hostage.
But everyone's gaze, filled with undisguised shock and bewilderment, was focused on Jiang Yu, who looked slender and even somewhat like a girl next door.
Disarming an attacker barehanded? No, it was disarming a gun with bare hands! Subduing three armed thugs in an instant! The speed, the strength, the swift and decisive skill was utterly appalling…
Is this even human?
Pan Hui stood in the crowd, her eyes fixed on Jiang Yu's profile.
In that fleeting glimpse just now, combined with the angle now... the image from Jiang Yu's live stream in her mind instantly overlapped with the face in front of her!
It's her! The streamer who physically blocked the car during her live broadcast! Jiang Yu!
It's not special effects...it's not the script...it's not hype...
She truly... possesses superhuman strength!
Pan Hui's heart began to pound uncontrollably. A chill, mixed with immense shock and an indescribable excitement, shot from her feet to the top of her head.
Yesterday's words from her boss, the ridicule from her colleagues, and her own remaining skepticism based on "common sense" were all shattered by the stark reality before her eyes.
She recalled the words Jiang Yu had calmly uttered during her live stream that morning: "The Heavenly Emperor Scripture...the beginning of cultivation...receiving the sea of suffering..."
An absurd thought, yet supported by the undeniable facts before her eyes, became undeniably real, and uncontrollably entered Pan Hui's mind:
Could it be... that all of those things are true?
