Chapter 7 Trading
Chapter 7 Trading
The four of them took a winding and circuitous route, even splitting into two groups and moving in different directions, but none of this could fool Fu Que, who possessed a true vision.
The four eventually squeezed into the end of a dead-end alley where the smell of fish became even stronger.
In front of me was a half-closed iron gate.
The leader looked around warily again to make sure no one was following him before quickly knocking on the door.
"Who is it?"
A response came from behind the door.
"The manager of the Li family sent us to make the deal."
The leading man returned.
As he replied, the other three stood tacitly beside him, their right hands loosely gripping the hilts of their swords at their waists.
After they finished speaking, there was a moment of silence inside the door, but soon the iron door was pulled open from the inside, and a young man in a short jacket looked them over sharply.
"Sent by Li Bisi?"
The young man in the short jacket asked.
"right."
The man leading the Li family nodded.
"Come in."
The young man in the short jacket stepped aside and replied expressionlessly.
The four exchanged glances, filed into the iron gate, and watched as the other slowly pushed the door shut.
"Come with me."
The young man in the short jacket called out and then turned to leave.
"Damn, they're pretty cautious; they've even put people on the roof."
Fu Que glanced at the silent iron gate, took a deep breath, and slowly retreated into the shadows. He then climbed up the courtyard wall from another direction to the roof of the shed on the side.
Under the cover of the thatched roof tiles, he cautiously looked up and peered into the courtyard.
Fu Que was less than a meter away from the people on guard, but thanks to the True Sight, his movements went unnoticed.
Fortunately, I gave those idiots orders: if they can't keep up, they shouldn't force it. It's better to come back and report than to alert them. With this level of vigilance, they'd be discovered if they came over.
Feeling relieved, Fu Que began to survey the situation in the courtyard.
Before long, the four of them followed the young man in the short jacket into the backyard, and when they saw what was around them, they were all dumbfounded.
Q: How many people would come to the other side for a typical smuggling transaction?
A: There are nearly twenty people!
The backyard was almost completely filled with people, and several figures were on guard along the walls and roof.
The men, of varying ages, all had bulging temples and dark, cautious eyes as they stared at the four members of the Li family carrying their bundles.
Being targeted by dozens of fierce-looking men, the leader of the Li family felt his scalp tingle, and his three subordinates immediately gripped the short knives at their waists, their palms sweating profusely.
In the center of the backyard, there was a long table where a middle-aged man sat alone, his legs crossed, his gaze gloomy. Seeing the actions of the four members of the Li family, a mocking smile appeared on his face.
"What, you're going to attack me?"
As soon as he finished speaking, nearly twenty people gathered around and stood behind the middle-aged man.
The leader of the Li family swallowed hard, waved his hand to reassure his men, removed his hands from their weapons and let them hang naturally at his sides, and said in a steady voice, "It's just a routine transaction, is it really necessary to bring so many people?"
Seeing that he remained relatively calm, the middle-aged man paused slightly, then shook his head and said:
"Not only Scarface Li, but two other leaders of our Green Gang in the county have also been killed one after another. We have investigated and found that it was not done by officials."
The leader initially thought he had crossed someone's line, which was why his hand was chopped off. However, when we met last night and checked the codes, the members were generally well-behaved and did not cross any lines.
Moreover, the person who made the move didn't even talk to us. This ruthless guy has his eye on our Green Gang. For the sake of my life, even for a routine transaction, I have to be cautious.
After saying that, without waiting for a reply from the Li family, he continued to ask, "Bring out the goods for us to see."
Upon hearing this, the three people surrounding the leader of the Li family all turned their attention to him.
"It's alright, let them see it."
The leader spoke, and decisively tossed the package on his shoulder onto the long table. Seeing him do this, the other three naturally followed suit.
The package was opened to reveal fist-sized, dark iron blocks and sealed wooden boxes.
Upon seeing this, the middle-aged member of the Green Gang made no comment, but simply straightened up and reached out to pick up the two items.
"Clatter".
The leader of the Li family stepped forward, placing his hands lightly on the package, raising his eyebrows and saying in a deep voice, "Where's the money?"
"Don't you know the rules? I'm the buyer. How can I pay you without inspecting the goods first?"
The middle-aged man stared coldly at the other person.
The two men stared at each other for a few breaths before the Li family member finally backed down slightly, withdrawing his hand and taking two steps back, silently watching the other man.
After all, the situation is beyond our control; there are more than twenty people watching us, so we have no choice but to back down.
"Damn it, for a normal transaction, you brought more than twenty people, practically filling the rooftop with them. You're such a coward, yet you still try to act tough with me. I hope you get robbed on your way back and chopped up to feed the fish."
The leader of the Li family remained outwardly calm, but inwardly he was already cursing the middle-aged man to pieces.
The middle-aged man reached out and picked up something from the long table, then opened the wooden box to look inside.
The dark iron block was heavy and hard, and the wooden box smelled familiar; the middle-aged man breathed a sigh of relief.
The Green Gang is indeed going through a turbulent time, with several leaders being beheaded in succession, making him somewhat paranoid.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have brought so many men to a normal transaction, nor would he have chosen this remote and desolate place as the transaction location.
If it weren't for the fact that the gang and the beasts in the mountains hadn't cleaned up their mess, and that the Tiger Riders were keeping a close eye on them, preventing them from taking action, they would have already set a trap and eliminated the people who had plotted against them.
But for now, we can only be cautious and wait out this period.
The leader of the Li family looked grim. Only after the inspection was completed did he speak, "Is everything alright? Where's the money?"
"Um!"
The goods were fine, and a rare smile appeared on the middle-aged man's face as he slightly turned his head.
A member of the Green Gang stepped forward, placed the package he was carrying on the long table, and deftly opened it, revealing silver ingots inside.
"cooperate……."
"Pfft!"
After the leader of the Li family finished checking and found no problems, a smile appeared on his face. He had just reached out his hand and hadn't even finished speaking when a short knife, like a shooting star, pierced through his chest from behind.
He felt a sharp pain in his chest, and slowly looked down, only to see half a blade growing out of his chest.
"You... gurgle gurgle!"
The leader of the Li family stared at the middle-aged man with half his face contorted in terror and the other half in disbelief. He couldn't believe that a simple transaction could lead to such a double-cross.
But as soon as he opened his mouth, his throat was blocked by a surge of blood and foam, and he could not say anything. He was weak all over and collapsed to the ground, dying instantly.
"Are you trying to double-cross us?!"
The remaining three members of the Li family watched helplessly as their eldest brother died before their eyes, and in their shock and anger, they drew the knives from their waists.
"Shut up, you idiot!"
The middle-aged man's face was ashen. He coldly glanced at the three members of the Li family who had drawn their swords and were pointing them at him, then focused his gaze on the direction from which the short sword had pierced through.
