Chapter 23
Chapter 23
On his way back, Nalan Jingwen took the opportunity to familiarize himself with the terrain. He originally wanted to ask what kind of place it was, but he overheard other things.
"I heard that our Queen's sister has gone missing, and the Queen has ordered that she must be found. She was furious."
Nalan Jingwen stopped and sat down quietly to the side, lowering his aura and presence, disappearing into the night.
"The Empress's sister? Is it that wise prince?"
"Who else is there besides the Wise Prince? Doesn't our Empress only have one younger sister?"
Several women were whispering among themselves.
"How could she have disappeared? Wasn't she at the border?"
"Who knows? I heard she suddenly disappeared. No one knows if she's dead or alive. The Empress cherishes this younger sister very much and said she wants to see her alive or dead."
The crowd clicked their tongues in disapproval.
"However, I heard that the Prince Xian had a bad reputation in the capital. He was known for abducting men in the street, frequenting gambling dens, and committing many evils. He only stopped after he got involved with the son of the Prime Minister."
One of the women said.
The others patted the woman on the head, put their index fingers to their lips, and looked serious.
"Shh, keep your voice down! This is not something we can discuss. Be careful, or you'll be accused of damaging the royal family's reputation and you'll be in big trouble!"
The woman realized what was happening and quickly lowered her voice.
"This wise prince's reputation is already well-known in the capital, so what's there to be afraid of? Besides, the emperor is far away, and this place is a hundred and eight thousand miles away from the capital. It can't be that exaggerated, can it?"
"It's better to be safe than sorry. It's always good to be cautious."
Nalan Jingwen sat quietly to the side, not showing much emotion upon hearing this, but the empress was a bit troublesome.
I want to see the person alive, or at least see their body.
She didn't want to go back, thinking they could just pretend she was dead. But she forgot that the current empress was a doting sister. If the original owner of this body disappeared, she would definitely send people to search for her. If she really died, it wouldn't matter, as long as the body was found. But she didn't die. What if the empress wouldn't give up until she found her?
She really didn't want to live as the Wise Prince and get involved in all that messy stuff. Sometimes identity is a hassle, so she preferred to be an ordinary person.
She hadn't been able to find out the exact force that killed the original owner, and with the Empress's interference, she could only be more cautious.
"However, I know what's going on between the Wise King and that son of the Prime Minister."
Several people craned their heads together, their eyes burning with the spirit of gossip.
"I heard that our Prince Xian used tricks to force himself on her and marry her. But I also heard that the Prime Minister's son is as handsome as an immortal. If he didn't use such methods, how could he have married that infamous Prince Xian?"
"really?"
"Absolutely true!"
All of them wore expressions of disdain.
"I never thought the royal family would resort to such despicable means. But if it's Prince Xian, then it makes sense. The Prime Minister must hate Prince Xian to death."
Nalan Jingwen shook his head. The original owner really didn't leave a good impression. Her bad reputation could be heard even from so far away. Bad news really does travel a thousand miles.
However, she wasn't interested in any of this and was about to get up and leave when she suddenly stopped after taking a few steps.
"But I heard that the Prime Minister's son is seriously injured and is still unconscious and unable to get out of bed. All the famous doctors have been consulted and all kinds of medicines have been tried, but to no avail. I don't know if he can survive."
Nalan Jingwen frowned, recalling the resolute figure of his departure in his memory. A tightness gripped his chest, a subtle, persistent pain welled up inside him, and a sense of sorrow spread throughout his heart.
She clutched her chest, took a deep breath to calm her surging emotions, and looked at him with a complicated expression.
I originally thought that Rong Hengyu's injury was just a pretense to lure the original owner back, but I never expected that he was really injured and still hasn't woken up.
This man is nothing but a pitiful person. All the suffering he has endured comes from the original owner of this body, and now he has to suffer this calamity again.
We can only hope he survives.
Looking up at the high-hanging full moon, there are no stars to adorn this night, only a lonely moon, which appears desolate and bleak.
Liu Qishan was still waiting for her at the inn; she couldn't linger outside any longer.
She pushed open the door and went inside. She heard the sound of running water. Behind the screen, white steam rose, casting shadows that outlined the figure of a man, making her want to explore further.
Upon hearing the door open, the man behind the screen stopped what he was doing, and a gentle, calm voice rang out.
"Ah Wen, you're back?"
Nalan Jingwen took out his clothes, including his undershirt and trousers, and draped them over the screen.
"Well, it's me."
He glanced at the food on the table and asked, "Why don't you finish eating before washing?"
"I want to wait for you to come back so we can be together."
Nalan Jingwen said no more and changed the subject.
"I bought you a few sets of clothes and put them on the screen. Try them on after you wash them to see if they fit."
"it is good."
Liu Qishan quickly finished washing and emerged from behind the screen. Her wet hair was loosely draped behind her, and her face was flushed from the bath. Her blue robe was loosely worn, vaguely outlining her alluring figure. Her fair and delicate collarbone was exposed, with glistening water droplets on it, an invisible temptation.
Nalan Jingwen was slightly taken aback, then got up, took his hand, led him to sit down, and reached out to take a handkerchief to dry his hair.
She frowned and said, "Why didn't you dry your hair before coming out? You're more likely to catch a cold this way."
Although she was scolding him, she moved her hands very gently, afraid of hurting him.
Liu Qishan just smiled faintly and remained silent, neither refuting her words, sitting quietly and obediently.
Seeing his expression, Nalan Jingwen didn't know what else to say.
Ultimately, she was still worried about him because he was blind, and she subconsciously wanted to take better care of him. Liu Qishan actually looked no different from a normal person and could accomplish everything smoothly, but she still worried.
"I remember, it won't happen again."
He suddenly spoke up, then said, "Don't be angry."
Nalan Jingwen composed herself, and Liu Qishan, with her keen senses, could easily detect her displeasure.
"I'm not angry, but you should take good care of yourself and not worry others."
she warned.
Liu Qishan nodded in agreement.
"it is good."
Without internal energy, he couldn't help dry it quickly. Nalan Jingwen suddenly realized the advantage of having internal energy.
Then he thought of the jade pendant, his eyes flickered, and he didn't speak. The room fell silent for a moment, and only their breathing could be heard.
After finally drying my hair, I realized the food was cold, so I called the waiter to come up and take it away, and bring me a fresh serving.
When only the two of them were left in the room again, Nalan Jingwen finally turned his gaze to Liu Qishan.
The blue robe suited him perfectly, as expected, and accentuated his graceful, bamboo-like appearance.
Liu Qishan looked over and asked her.
Do I look good in this outfit?
Nalan Jingwen answered truthfully.
"nice."
He looks stunning no matter what he wears.
Upon receiving the answer, Liu Qishan's gentle smile deepened, becoming even more captivating.
How did you know my size?
Nalan Jingwen casually picked up a teacup, poured a cup of hot tea, and placed it in his hands to warm them. She then tucked the loose strands of hair behind his ears, revealing his delicate face. Her movements were practiced and skillful. Upon hearing this, she simply replied, "I've held you in my arms for so many nights. What part of your body don't I know? Knowing your size isn't difficult for me."
She spoke calmly, her expression unchanged, and poured herself a cup of tea.
Liu Qishan fell silent after hearing this. His ears, which were hidden by his hair, began to burn, and he lowered his head slightly.
