42. The film "The Dilemma"
42. The film "The Dilemma"
August 15th.
While most students were bored during their summer vacation, the film held a modest opening ceremony in Beijing. Only three television media outlets and two online media outlets were invited to give interviews. However, this film, directed by renowned Hollywood Chinese director Lin Lili, starring award-winning actor Lin Zhen (who had been on a three-month hiatus from the media) and Hollywood star Petty Bright, along with a cast of Chinese and foreign stars including Lin Shanshan, An Jing, Mark Wesley, and Michaelson Aaron, made a rumored supporting actress seem almost insignificant. The film, produced by the original music and editing team, still caused a sensation across the country. Although director Lin Lili believed that the initial publicity was sufficient and began to control the frequency of the film's appearance on the internet, print media, and television, it could not dampen the enthusiasm of the audience.
When Su Tong went to Beijing to discuss things with director Lin Lili, it was quite sudden. Later, after they got to know each other, director Lin jokingly said, "This is the first time I've felt so amazed since I started directing and entered this industry." After discussing things with director Lin and signing the contract, Su Tong herself didn't have an agent or management company, but a very quiet young man was with her handling things. Director Lin didn't ask anything and just introduced Su Tong to a teacher from Huali Film and Television to take acting classes.
Her acting teacher was a middle-aged man surnamed Ma, quite famous in the industry. He was strict to the point of being aloof. It was rumored that even the award-winning actor Lin Zhen had studied with him for several months. He usually appeared to be just a quiet, thin man, but when he acted, he was so captivating that you couldn't take your eyes off him, and you could even overlook his somewhat unattractive face. Su Tong watched many movies every day, learning classic characters, classic scenes, and classic performances. She learned to watch before she learned to act. Su Tong was actually very nervous, wondering how to portray different characters and situations. After studying with the same intensity she had when preparing for the college entrance exam for a month, she was finally told, "Not bad."
Su Tong attended the opening ceremony, but she didn't meet with any media. Director Lin explained that the film's pre-release publicity was so strong that Su Tong, this "secret weapon," would be revealed to the media in the last few days before the film's release. This time, she simply took the opportunity to get to know the other actors who had important roles in the film. Among the Chinese actors, she had met Lin Shanshan once in the city; she was a woman who seemed aloof but was never lacking in manners. An Jing, although only in his early twenties, was practically a big boy, smiling and easy to get along with. There were also three middle-aged actors. Most of the filming for this movie took place in Los Angeles, Country A, and many of the actors were actually from Country A, but many did not attend the opening ceremony in Beijing. Among them, Petty Bright was a beautiful woman from Country A with long, deep blue eyes, and Mark Wesley was a black actor with a very warm smile.
Su Tong is a newcomer, and among all the actors, she is currently the one with the most free time.
So, out of politeness, Su Tong was the first to arrive that day. Holding her script and wearing a beige long dress, Su Tong sat there. Almost every staff member stared at her for a long time, including the other actors who arrived later. However, she noticed that although An Jing kept looking at her, she never got close to her. The most enthusiastic person to her was actually Petty Bright, who was famous for her beauty. She pulled Su Tong and stared at Su Tong up and down with her long, narrow eyes, praising Su Tong in broken Chinese, "So beautiful!" Su Tong was quite embarrassed. She was also very interested in the Chinese embroidery on Su Tong's long dress, and Su Tong also liked the bone necklace she was wearing. The two quickly started chatting happily in English.
However, her relationship with Lin Shanshan and Su Tong was only so-so. Wang Lu often revealed "something about the Second Young Master's love life" to her, and she knew that Lin Shanshan seemed to have always liked Xie Chengjing. Although she now thought that Xie Chengjing was actually a good person, she really didn't understand where Lin Shanshan got the confidence and courage to actively and persistently approach an iceberg. So she was a little curious about Lin Shanshan and secretly glanced at her a few times.
Makeup artists, stylists, and assistants of various celebrities came and went around them, but Su Tong, who was sitting close to everyone, seemed to be in another world. Su Tong only realized this feeling when Lin Zhen arrived. He was wearing a pure white retro suit, and although he was tall, he did not give people a sense of oppression. When he smiled slightly at everyone, the beautiful and distant feeling was exactly the same as Su Tong sitting there. His voice was warm: "Hello, I am Lin Zhen."
While replying, "Hello!" Petty couldn't help but turn her head and glance at Su Tong.
Su Tong understood why she wanted to see her. She had seen Lin Zhen on the big screen many times, but this was completely different from seeing him in person. In the movies, he could be a cold-blooded killer, a freakish scientist, or a penniless beggar, but he himself, just standing there, gave people a sense of beauty, and at the same time, he seemed like an untouchable existence. His eyes seemed unfathomable yet clear and transparent. Anyone who saw Su Tong and him at the same time would probably feel that the two of them were so similar.
Su Tong stood up, extended her hand, and said, "Hello. I'm Su Tong."
Her hands were crystal clear and white, with slender fingers, like translucent thin porcelain.
Lin Zhen glanced at Su Tong with his light-colored eyes, showing his focus and seriousness towards this co-star, before extending his hand to shake Su Tong's hand and saying in a proper manner, "Su Tong, it's a pleasure to meet you."
Su Tong felt that his eyes had a strange warmth and loneliness, but his appearance was extremely beautiful and elegant. He could perfectly portray even the craziest and strangest characters, making it impossible for anyone to look away once they saw him.
The opening ceremony was broadcast live simultaneously on three television channels and also streamed online on two websites. Besides the standard, uncomplicated procedures, there was a segment where lucky viewers were drawn to answer questions from the participating celebrities. Due to Lin Zhen's immense popularity across Asia and his three-month absence from the public eye, most of the questions were directed at him, covering everything from his career to his personal life. Fortunately, his co-stars, Patty Bright and Lin Shanshan, both long-time members of the entertainment industry, helped maintain a less awkward atmosphere. He smiled and said, "Please don't neglect these two beauties," which eased the tension somewhat.
Immediately, netizens asked Petty Bright: "What does Goddess Petty think of my great Chinese male god?"
Petty Bright blinked shyly, like a young girl, while looking at Lin Zhen with her deep eyes. She consulted the translator behind her and this time actually used full Chinese: "Very, charming!" Then she suddenly changed the subject, "But, Chinese women are even more charming!"
A reporter from Xinhai.com immediately followed up, asking, "Are you referring to Lin Shanshan?"
This time it was Lin Zhen who answered. His eyes were filled with a charming smile as he said, "Petti was referring to another actress in our crew. She is very beautiful, but unfortunately she can't meet everyone today." He spread his hands playfully, "I feel very sorry for everyone about this."
The reporters immediately became excited. This was the first time that Lin, the film emperor, had praised an actress like this. Connecting this to the rumors circulating online recently, they all asked…
He asked, "Is it that ancient dance goddess? Why can't she come to the opening ceremony today?"
"Director Lin, why did you choose this newcomer who has never appeared in any film or television works before? Was it just because of her beauty?"
"Mr. Lin, is there any personal reason behind your praise of that actress?"
However, no one could answer these questions by the end of the opening ceremony.
After the event, everyone went to a private restaurant in Wangfujing, Beijing, for a meal. After getting to know each other, they dispersed without drinking much alcohol under Director Lin's supervision, and each went on to prepare for their respective filming.
As Su Tong was leaving, someone called her from behind. When she turned around, it was Lin Zhen.
He took a small box from his assistant behind him and handed it to Su Tong with the same slight smile. "It's a little trinket I got while traveling. It's not worth much money. I'll give it to you."
Su Tong accepted the gift, thanked Wang Hai, went to the parking lot, got into Wang Hai's car, and went home.
It was quite late when they arrived, but Xie Chengjing hadn't returned yet. Kongkong barked and pounced on Su Tong, while Xie Chengjing's dog, Xie Er'er, kept a cool, handsome face and watched Su Tong from a distance.
