Chapter 136 First Battle Against the Frigid Winter

Chapter 136 First Battle Against the Frigid Winter

Chapter 135 First Battle Against Winter (Part 1)

A white blizzard, carrying a deluge of ice and snow, swept in from the northern horizon.

Deep within the blizzard, countless dark figures writhe in the snow, like a living black tide, slowly but steadily advancing towards Frostwolf City.

The wind was biting cold on the city wall.

Lorraine stood atop the highest point of the northern city wall, his cloak fluttering wildly in the gale, but his gaze remained fixed on the increasingly clear outlines deep within the blizzard.

An army of monsters.

Tens of thousands of monsters trudged through the snow, their forms varied: there were ice wolves that ran on all fours, frost beetles with bloated bodies, snow giants wielding thick arms, and countless low-level monsters whose names were unknown.

They converged into a vast black tide, standing out starkly against the white snowfield.

"So many." Ohm lay on the battlements, his silver eyes wide open, muttering indistinctly, "Much more than those six Tier 4 beasts that brought last time—"

Catherine stood behind Ohm, her arms crossed over her chest, her expression somber.

Her gaze passed over the vanguard of the monster army, pierced through the snow curtain, and landed in the distance.

"The vanguard are all second and third-tier grunts," Catherine said calmly. "The Winter Lord is using them as cannon fodder to deplete our magic power."

"Where is that guy's real body?" Victor stood beside Lorraine, holding his longsword. The aura of a fourth-tier Grand Knight circulated around him, preventing the snowflakes nearby from getting close.

"At the very back," Lyra said softly.

Her heterochromatic eyes, one black and one gold, narrowed slightly, as if peering through the patterns of fate to see something. "I can feel—a very heavy sense of oppression, coming from the deepest part of the blizzard."

Lorraine did not speak.

His gaze swept across the vanguard of the monster army, past the densely packed monster horde in the center, and finally settled on the densest mass of darkness at the heart of the blizzard.

Fifth order.

The Lord of Winter.

Even from this distance, the oppressive aura was enough to make the ordinary soldiers on the city wall feel their legs go weak.

Several militiamen responsible for carrying the arrows were already pale-faced, and they almost dropped the wooden boxes in their hands.

"Hold on tight."

Victor gave a low shout. His voice wasn't loud, but it carried the mental shock unique to fourth-tier knights, like a heavy hammer striking everyone's heart, temporarily suppressing the fear.

The militiamen gritted their teeth and gripped the supplies firmly in their hands again.

Lorraine withdrew her gaze and turned to Anna beside her.

The entropy witch, who had just advanced to the fifth rank, stood half a step behind him.

This was a habit she developed when she was a maid, and even now, as the leader of the Witch Guild, she still subconsciously maintains this stance.

Anna's hands were raised, her fingertips shimmering with a deep red light.

That was the outward manifestation of the power of entropy; the law of time acceleration was gathering in her palm, ready to transform into a destructive ray at any moment.

"Young master, may I..."

"Wait." Lorraine reached out and pressed down on Anna's wrist.

Anna was taken aback and looked at Lorraine with a puzzled expression.

"Save your magic for the Winter Lord," Lorraine said firmly. "You don't need to deal with these second and third-tier minions."

"But—" Anna hesitated for a moment, looked at the approaching horde of monsters below the city wall, and then at Lorraine.

"Listen to him," Catherine said from the side. "Fifth-tier against fifth-tier, you must use every bit of your magic power wisely."

Leave these little things to us.

Anna pursed her lips, finally nodded, and slowly withdrew the light from her fingertips.

Lorraine released her grip and turned to face the witch's towers lined up on the city wall.

Forty-eight fifth-order entropy towers stand on the north city wall, currently in standby mode, their internal magic circuits already preheated, awaiting only a command.

In addition to these forty-eight Entropy Towers, Catherine's twenty-four Tier 4 Storm Towers, Ohm's twenty-four Tier 4 Magic Cannon Towers, Olivia's twelve Tier 3 Thorn Towers, and Lyra's twelve Tier 3 Doom Towers are all lined up along the city wall.

One hundred and twenty Witch Towers.

This is the steel defense line that Lorraine has built with all its might.

"Are we within range?" Lorraine asked.

Catherine closed her eyes slightly, her mental energy extending outward through the Storm Tower to sense the distance of the demon army.

"Three hundred meters to go."

"Two hundred meters."

"One hundred meters"

"Entering firing range."

Lorraine's voice rang out in the cold wind, brief and decisive.

"Fire."

Catherine was the first to act.

She suddenly opened her eyes, spread her arms to the sides, and the twenty-four fourth-tier Storm Towers simultaneously emitted a piercing hum.

The spherical lightning rod at the top of the tower spun wildly, and the energy that had been accumulating for several seconds was released in a single instant. Twenty-four thick beams of lightning shot out from the top of the tower, tearing through the snow curtain and crashing into the vanguard of the monster army with a deafening explosion.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Lightning bolts leaped wildly among the monsters. A third-tier ice wolf was struck head-on by a lightning pillar, its fur instantly turning black. Its massive body twitched twice in the arc of electricity before crashing to the ground.

Then, Ohm clapped his hands.

The twenty-four Tier 4 magic-powered heavy cannons emitted a dull roar, spewing out magic-powered projectiles the size of human heads from their muzzles.

The bullets streaked across the sky, trailing fiery red flames, and exploded upon hitting the monster horde, each bullet clearing an entire area.

Olivia took a deep breath and clasped her hands together.

The spires of the twelve Tier 3 Thorn Towers shone with emerald green light, and countless thick thorn vines sprouted from the snow, like giant pythons that had come to life, coiling around the monsters running at the forefront and pinning them to the spot.

The bound monsters struggled and roared, desperately trying to escape, but could only watch helplessly as the next wave of artillery fire fell on their heads.

Lyra made the final move.

She closed her heterochromatic eyes, and the twelve third-tier Towers of Misfortune emitted a low hum, with invisible ripples spreading outwards towards the demon army.

The effect is immediate.

A charging Tier 3 Frost Beetle suddenly slipped, its massive body losing its balance and knocking over a dozen of its companions behind it, causing a series of chaotic events.

Another snow giant tried to throw a snowball at the city wall, but somehow it suddenly slipped from its grasp and killed several ice wolves behind it.

Enraged, the pack of ice wolves turned and lunged at the snow giant.

The monster formation was in complete chaos.

On the city wall, Lorraine watched this scene with a slight smile on her lips.

The sight of 120 Witch Towers firing simultaneously was truly spectacular.

Lightning, cannonballs, thorns, and misfortune—four distinct attack methods intertwined to form an impenetrable firepower net, tearing the vanguard of the monster army to shreds.

The monsters did retaliate.

Some third-tier ice-type monsters began firing ice spears and frost bullets at the city wall. The sharp ice spikes whistled as they slammed into the Titan alloy wall, producing a piercing metallic clang.

However, the hardness of the fourth-tier Titan alloy far exceeded the destructive power of these low-tier attacks. The ice spear shattered into ice shards upon hitting the wall, leaving not even a white mark.

"That's it?" Victor leaned against the battlements, looking at the monsters below who were putting up a futile counterattack, his tone tinged with disdain.

Lorraine did not respond.

His gaze remained fixed on the depths of the blizzard.

The vanguard of the monster army quickly collapsed under the crossfire of the Witch Tower.

The second and third-tier monsters were unable to withstand this level of saturation attack and fell in droves. Their corpses piled up on the snow and quickly formed a low wall made of monster remains.

But the monsters that followed continued forward, stepping over the corpses of their companions, one after another, as if they knew nothing of fear.

Even demons have a certain probability of developing intelligence once they reach the third tier.

Under normal circumstances, these intelligent third-tier demons would never go against their biological instincts and rush to their deaths one after another.

But behind them, the oppressive aura emanating from the fifth-tier demons was like an invisible giant hand, pushing each demon forward.

Faced with the will of the Winter Lord, these low-level monsters had no way out.

Forward, or die.

Even so, the rate of monster casualties far exceeded the rate of their advance.

The firepower of the more than one hundred Witch Towers was too fierce; each volley could reap the lives of hundreds of monsters.

The corpses of monsters piled up on the snowfield, their blood staining the white snow a shocking deep red, only to be quickly covered by newly fallen snowflakes, and then soaked in blood again.

This process was repeated over and over.
