Chapter 24 The Engagement Was Annulled
Chapter 24 The Engagement Was Annulled
As Jiang Huanxi stared intently at him from head to toe, Xie Jinbo felt a tightness in his groin.
"You...you...you...how dare you talk like that?!"
Jiang Huanxi had nothing to say to this coward, and clicked his tongue to express his disdain.
Xie Jinbo looked pale and was sweating profusely with anger.
Thinking that he had become impotent because of his search for Jiang Yuyue, he now felt the same kind of oppression when facing her relatives.
"Bastard!"
Madam Xie glanced at Xie Jinbo's spineless appearance and felt angry, but she was even angrier that she couldn't get any money from the Jiang family.
Ignoring all etiquette and rules, she smashed her cane and began to curse, "So all of you Jiang family members are so heartless! You stand idly by and refuse to help your in-laws in their time of need! My Xie family is truly unlucky to have married Jiang Yuyue, this jinx!"
As she spoke, she became increasingly agitated, and upon recalling her beloved grandson Xie Yunqi, whose body had vanished without a trace, she even began to cry out.
"My poor Qi'er was cursed to death by that stubborn man from your Jiang family. Now he's disregarding all human ethics and fooling around with a bastard, neglecting all important family matters. He's really going to ruin our Xie family!"
Madam Xie's cries were tinged with resentment, resenting that Jiang Yuyue had hidden her dowry so well that they wouldn't even know where to steal it!
After searching the house for months without success, where did Jiang Yuyue hide all the silver?
Jiang Huanxi gave her a cold look. "Then I'll take the old lady's good wishes. If my sister has such supernatural power to kill your whole family, it will be a blessing for your Xie family!"
After saying that, Jiang Huanxi turned to leave, vowing never to set foot in that unlucky place again in his life.
But when he was about to leave, the Xie family panicked.
For Xie Jinbo, the Jiang family was the only savior he could rely on!
"and many more--"
Xie Jinbo stepped forward, intending to stop Jiang Huanxi.
But Jiang Huanxi is not someone to be trifled with, much less someone like Xie Jinbo, a good-for-nothing, who can be easily fooled.
Jiang Huanxi grabbed Xie Jinbo's arm and forcefully slammed his knee into Xie Jinbo's shoulder. A crisp cracking sound rang out, and Xie Jinbo immediately cried out in pain and fell to the ground.
"Aaaaaah—my arm! My arm is going to break!"
Everyone was taken aback by Jiang Huanxi's actions, and Old Madam Xie hurriedly rebuked him.
"How dare you assault someone in my Xie family?!"
"It was Xie Jinbo who tried to stop me from going home and attempted to rob me of my money first."
Jiang Huanxi threw Xie Jinbo off like a rag doll. "I'm just here to deliver a letter for my sister. Now that I've delivered it, there's no reason for me to stay here any longer. If anyone dares to stop me, then feel free to try."
Having learned from Xie Jinbo's example, no one dared to step forward and act presumptuously. After all, it was the Xie family who were in the wrong, and they could only watch helplessly as Jiang Huanxi walked out the door.
Seeing that Jiang Huanxi had left just like that, Xie Jinbo disregarded his pain and scrambled to his knees before Old Madam Xie.
"Grandmother! You can't just stand by and watch me die! If I can't come up with that money, those people from the gambling den will break my legs! You can't just watch me get beaten to death, Grandmother! You watched me grow up!"
Hearing Xie Jinbo's tearful pleas, Old Madam Xie was also filled with resentment at his lack of resolve.
"If only you had known this would happen! I warned you long ago not to gamble anymore, but you wouldn't listen! Now you've brought this disaster upon yourself, and you deserve it!"
Hearing this, Xie Jinbo became even more anxious. Without further ado, he directly invoked the authority of the Xie family's eldest son.
“Grandmother, it’s one thing if you don’t care about my life, but don’t you care about my uncle’s career either? Our Xie family is now relying on my uncle’s salary. If this matter gets out of hand… my uncle will lose his job, and that won’t just be my problem, our whole family will suffer!”
Upon hearing this, the Xie family members' expressions changed drastically, and Old Madam Xie closed her eyes as if resigned to her fate.
If things really escalate to that point, the Xie family will be completely finished!
……
The Jiang family residence.
Thinking of the Xie family, that unlucky bunch, Jiang Huanxi continued to curse and rage as soon as she got home.
"The Xie family is truly a bunch of bastards who eat people without spitting out the bones! My sister only married into their family, not sold them, yet they still try every means to swindle her money!"
Jiang Huanxi grew angrier the more she thought about it, but then, thinking of Jiang Yuyue's current situation, her words were filled with unconcealed heartache.
"Poor sister, her husband died just half a month after she married into the Xie family. The Xie family is holding onto her tightly, afraid she'll run away. They're even eyeing her dowry and our entire Jiang family's assets!"
After saying this, Jiang Huanxi looked at her father and mother, "Father, Mother, we can't just stand by and watch my sister jump into the fire!"
Hearing Jiang Huanxi's description, Madam Jiang was both angry and anxious. She thought she had chosen a good marriage for Jiang Yuyue, but she never expected that she would be pushed into a den of wolves and tigers!
"I'll go find the Xie family tomorrow!"
Madam Jiang wiped away her tears with a handkerchief, her eyes red from crying. "Even if it means breaking ties with the Xie family, I have to cancel this marriage for Yue'er!"
Meanwhile, Jiang's father, who was reading the letter, shook his head thoughtfully. Jiang Huanxi frowned when she saw his expression, thinking that her father disagreed with breaking off the engagement, and she immediately became anxious.
"Father! Even now, you're not still worried about saving face, are you?!"
What nonsense are you spouting?
Father Jiang immediately retorted, pointing to the letter Jiang Yuyue had brought them.
"Yue'er's letter said that we should not act rashly, but go to the estate for a while and discuss it again after she returns."
"The current situation is not optimistic, but judging from Yue'er's expression, it seems that she had expected this all along."
Upon hearing this, the three members of the Jiang family calmed down a bit. After careful consideration, they realized that Jiang Yuyue, with her strong-willed nature, would not allow this large group of accomplices from the Xie family to torment her.
But why is she able to guess the current situation so accurately?
"Then let's do as my sister says and stay at the estate for a few days."
After a moment's thought, Jiang Huanxi finally made a decision.
"Judging from the fact that Madam Xie has gone so far as to ask me for money today, the Xie family must be in a very urgent situation. It's only a matter of time before they come knocking on our door. Once we're entangled, it'll be like a leech that's hard to get rid of. We'd better lay low for a while."
Mr. and Mrs. Jiang agreed to the proposal and immediately told the maids and servants to pack their luggage, while Jiang Huanxi sighed softly.
He was still worried about Jiang Yuyue. He had planned to go to the capital after sending the letter and reporting that he was safe, but now that the Xie family was eyeing their property, Jiang Huanxi could not just leave his parents here.
