Chapter 32 The Strange Guest
Chapter 32 The Strange Guest
I sat in the chair, stroking Qiqing, and joked, "Look at what you're saying! How could that be! I've just been so busy lately that I haven't had much time. That's why I bought you all these delicious snacks whenever I had a spare moment!"
"Since you're so sincere, I'll be magnanimous and forgive you for now!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he grabbed a bag of snacks and, like a starving squirrel, eagerly tore open the packaging. Then, oblivious to everyone else, he began to devour the snacks with relish.
Qi Qing, standing to the side, was completely unable to take his eyes off Wu Lai. He watched as Wu Lai ate with such relish, his throat bobbing involuntarily, and he kept swallowing his saliva uncontrollably.
He looked just like a greedy child, staring longingly at the food in someone else's hand, but too shy to ask for some.
The interaction between these two is just too adorable. One is enjoying the delicious food without any restraint, while the other can only watch with longing and swallow hard. It makes people feel happy and want to laugh out loud.
I suppressed a laugh, a sly look on my face, and teased, "Hey, Qiqing, why are you still standing there like an idiot? If you don't hurry up and rush over to grab those delicious snacks, they'll all be snatched up by Wulai, and you won't even get a crumb!"
Upon hearing my words, Qiqing shot out like an arrow released from a bow, its speed as fast as lightning.
Her eyes lit up as she stared intently at the mountain of snacks piled on the table, muttering to herself, "They're all mine, and nobody can take them from me!" As if she had hands and feet, she grabbed a handful of potato chips with her left hand and a bag of jelly with her right, busy as a bee.
Just then, Wu Lai, not to be outdone, also pounced on the pile of snacks with lightning speed. The two instantly engaged in a fierce battle, neither giving an inch, exchanging blows back and forth, the situation extremely tense.
They fought over the snacks while also attacking each other, creating a chaotic scene.
Seeing that these two rascals were about to fight over the snacks, I quickly spoke up to stop them and acted as a peacemaker.
I stepped forward, snatched the snacks they were clutching tightly from their hands, and then began to distribute them fairly and justly.
After careful consideration, I finally divided the snacks into two equal portions and handed them to the two of them.
Once they had their share of snacks, the two stopped fighting, satisfied, and each found a corner to enjoy their treats.
Seeing how ravenously they were wolfing down their food, I couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Having two children brings double the happiness and endless joy.
The next morning, as the first rays of sunlight streamed through the window onto my dining table, I was leisurely enjoying a delicious breakfast.
Just then, a light and energetic sound of footsteps reached my ears from afar.
Immediately afterwards, a figure appeared in the slightly quaint courtyard of the inn—a sunny young man.
As he approached, his clear, bell-like voice rang out distinctly in the courtyard, "Boss... is anyone home?"
Upon hearing the voice, Chongyang quickly stood up and replied, "Yes, please wait a moment."
After saying that, she whispered to me, "Sister Yuechu, let me go and see what's going on?"
I nodded in acknowledgment, my back to the guest. His steps were light and agile, as if each step carried the vigor and vitality of youth. As my spiritual power increased, my senses became more and more acute.
After receiving the answer, Chongyang hurried towards the kitchen door. As he stepped out, he looked up and saw a tall, handsome young man standing there.
His smile was as warm as the spring sun, but his eyes revealed a hint of melancholy.
Chongyang walked up to him, smiled, and asked, "Hello, is there anything I can help you with?"
He hesitated for a moment, then said softly, "I'd like to stay here for a few days, is that alright?"
Chongyang nodded. "Of course, we have rooms available. Are you here for tourism?"
Lu Yun shook his head. "No, I just want to find a quiet place to stay for a while..." His voice was low and somewhat tired.
Chongyang noticed that he was in low spirits, so she didn't ask any more questions. She quickly completed the check-in process and said with a smile, "Please rest first. Don't hesitate to call me if you need anything." She then handed the room key to Lu Yuan.
Lu Yun thanked him and carried his luggage into the room. Chongyang watched his retreating figure, a sense of curiosity rising within him.
After everything was settled, Chongyang walked towards the dining table again.
However, unlike in the past, Chongyang did not eagerly enjoy the food after returning to the dining table. Instead, he simply sat there quietly, holding chopsticks and stirring the steaming porridge in his bowl.
He stirred the originally thick porridge until it churned, and the grains of rice tumbled up and down under the touch of his chopsticks, as if they had lost their way.
Chongyang, on the other hand, seemed completely immersed in his own world, oblivious to everything around him.
"Chongyang, what's wrong with you?" I noticed he seemed distracted and worried that the porridge would get cold if I kept stirring it! I couldn't help but ask.
You should know that Chongyang is usually a person who cherishes food very much, and he always finishes his meals quickly. He has never been so absent-minded as he is today.
A sense of doubt and worry welled up in my heart; I wondered what had caused him to act so strangely.
"It's nothing, Sister Yuechu." Chongyang smiled and put down her chopsticks.
"I just saw that tenant, and he seemed to have something on his mind."
I nodded thoughtfully. "Hmm, it does seem a bit strange. But everyone has their own story. Maybe he just needs some time and space to adjust his mood."
Chongyang turned to look at me and said, "Sister Yuechu, do you think our life is too peaceful? We receive different guests every day, but most of them are just acquaintances. Just like life, no one knows what will happen tomorrow?"
I smiled slightly. "Yes, this is our job, and this is our life. Although it is ordinary, it has its own meaning."
Just then, there was a slight noise at the door. Chongyang and I exchanged a glance, then looked towards the door together.
The tenant walked in slowly, a slightly embarrassed smile on his face.
"Excuse me, I'm sorry to bother you. I'd like to ask if there are any fun places to visit nearby?" His tone was somewhat reserved.
