Chapter 26 Three Elements of Promotion
Chapter 26 Three Elements of Promotion
Lucius and Daisy parted ways at the restaurant entrance before 1 p.m.
Under the blood-red setting sun, he finally decided to take a horse-drawn carriage to the nearby steam tram station, then transfer to Spurlin Street.
This would cost an extra penny, but he couldn't possibly go to St. Audrey's Church every time and then casually walk out of the public restroom.
Putting aside the confidentiality principle in the contract, what if rumors spread in the street that he has health problems?
For example, regarding the kidneys...
At 1:30, Lucius arrived at Sprin Street accompanied by the "whoosh" of the steam tram.
He walked west for several dozen meters and saw several workers in blue clothes carrying a brown wooden desk toward number 19.
As they carried the table diagonally into the doorway, the leader tripped on the threshold, and the others cursed in a local Hull dialect.
Lucius approached and saw the outer packaging bags piled up against the exterior wall of Building 19.
"Hel City Furniture Co., Ltd." He murmured the brand logo, quickly matching the corresponding memory in his mind.
This is a high-end furniture company that has emerged in Hull in recent years, serving the custom furniture market for nobles, big businessmen and municipal officials.
He entered the Splin Detective Agency out of curiosity and saw Oliver reading a newspaper on the sofa, with steaming hot coffee on the glass coffee table.
"Good afternoon, Oliver. The weather is really nice today," Lucius greeted with a smile.
He has gradually gotten used to this kind of opening remark that includes weather observations.
Then Lucius pointed to the furniture in the hallway and asked, "Does the Splin Detective Agency need renovations?"
"Good afternoon, Lucius," Oliver replied with a smile, folding the newspaper and placing it next to his coffee cup. He glanced at the furniture placed outside in the hallway and answered:
"It does need renovation, but we'll be renovating a regular office for you."
Lucius nodded, acknowledging the Bureau of Counter-Strike's efficiency, but he still asked:
"A regular office shouldn't need high-end furniture, right? I mean, it's too expensive."
"You should thank Charles," Oliver whispered to Lucius.
"These past few days were supposed to be Eleanor and I taking turns on duty at the police station, but Felix adjusted the duty roster and added him to the duty list for these past few days."
Eleanor even had a long talk with Felix in his office about this.
In short, to thank you for the arrangement that gave him and Eleanor some alone time, Charles offered to help you renovate your office.
These pieces of furniture were acquired through his personal connections and in gold pounds.
Lucius understood immediately, and as a proper bystander, he asked curiously:
"Charles and Eleanor? I thought they had a falling out yesterday?"
"That's what a double-edged sword is," Oliver explained.
"The struggle between the two of them had already begun before they became Sequencers."
The two could argue from the living room to the stairwell over the technical details of a case, or they could have a cold war for days over a single wrong tone of voice.
but……"
He paused, a look on his face that we all knew what was going on, and continued:
Even Grey could see the undeniable love between them. Their problem was never love, but pride and prejudice.
"What a tragic couple," Lucius exclaimed.
After discussing that matter, he shifted the topic to the purpose of the trip, "Oliver, what is the occult subject we're going to learn today?"
"I almost forgot the important matter," Oliver stopped himself from saying any more gossip and pointed to the second-floor corridor. "Let's go to the Secret Teachings and Library first. This isn't a teaching place."
Lucius nodded and followed Oliver through the side door to the second floor. Before touching the seventh Scarred Door, he silently recited, "Secret Library and Tome Room."
The Secret Library and Archives are similar in structure to the East York University Library, consisting of two floors.
The first shelf contains books that do not contain occult knowledge, such as authentic historical documents and case files; the second shelf is the real secret storage room.
Oliver took out a black hardcover book, placed it on the long table, and said:
"Although the secret transmission and classics room does not need to be guarded at all times, it still needs to be checked regularly by team members in turns."
The main goal is to see if any book has begun to accumulate desire during its long storage period, or if it has undergone some kind of delayed activation after being read by the previous borrower.
Lucius looked down and saw "Preparation and Precautions for Sequence Promotion" written in Horn. He replied:
"Is this the occult subject we'll be learning today?"
Oliver opened the black book and pushed it in front of Lucius, smiling slightly:
"You're scheduled to be promoted to Feast Apostle next Monday, and Captain Felix specifically instructed me to move this lesson to today."
According to the normal teaching schedule, the third stage of advancement should have been carried out after you have learned the conventional phase theory and memorized at least twenty common ritual traps.
But your situation is special. You've already had experience with secret infiltration and completed the initial awakening, and the advancement potion will arrive next week...
Therefore, the basic courses and the advanced theory courses will be combined and covered in one session today.
Lucius nodded, indicating that Oliver could begin.
"To truly advance in the sequence, one must go through three stages..." Oliver's voice echoed in the library.
Lucius glanced at the table of contents and read out the three stages of the process: "Secret Transformation, Potion Concoction, Atmosphere Influence."
"That's right," Oliver explained, picking up where Lucius left off:
"The so-called secret transformation refers to the process by which, after activating mystical knowledge and entering the human body, the body is transformed in order to resolve the rejection reaction of sexual characteristics, thus forming new extraordinary organs."
"The light in the head?" Lucius thought of the word Oliver had said to him in the hallway early yesterday morning.
“That’s right,” Oliver said with certainty, citing Felix as an example, “If it’s a Blazing One like the Captain, the extraordinary organ is usually blood, called ‘Bronze Bloodline’.”
"This stage is the most important, but also the most dangerous. Taking the Radiant One as an example, an ordinary person needs to stay conscious under the hypnosis of at least five sleep aids, and at the same time, they need to train their body to resist sleep in order to basically resist the invasion of secret dreams."
After Oliver finished speaking, he suddenly remembered another thing the captain had told him, and turned to Lucius, saying:
"After today, your secret technique will be completely revamped, which means that Marcus in the shadows may make his move at any time."
After your occult course, go find Miles. He's on duty in the relic storage room today, and the captain has given you a relic for self-defense.
"An heirloom?" Lucius asked with interest.
Oliver didn't explain much, and steered the conversation back to the third stage of advancement...
