Chapter 184 Muddy Waters
Chapter 184 Muddy Waters
Keslan stood at the door of the private room.
Inside the brightly lit private room, a man and woman, separated yet reunited, shared a passionate kiss, tears welling in their eyes, reluctant to part. He, however, stood in the dimly lit corridor, his gaze dark and brooding, completely cut off from any warmth, just as throughout his life, he was forever that rat that could never see the light of day.
“Hey, I’m telling you,” Keslan said with a smile, though his eyes betrayed no emotion. “I understand you two are overwhelmed with emotion, but you don’t have to put on such a show in front of me.”
“My wife and I are very grateful to you, Chief Keslan.” Lin Yi had almost forgotten that such a person existed. Hearing the other party’s teasing voice, he pulled his wife into his arms and turned his head to reply, “We have seen the hard work and dedication of Chief Keslan and his men these past few days. The reward will definitely satisfy the chief.”
"Tsk, how much money could your Lin family possibly have? Surely not all three families pooling their resources to pay me, right?" Keslan said bluntly. "My men, especially the Sea Beast Squad, have practically been mobilized in full force. All other orders have been put aside. Guess how much the late fees are? Guess how much a single Sea Beast assassin's mission is worth?"
"General Lin Yi, would you like to guess again how much my commission is for taking on this mission?"
Lin Yi looked at Keslan with confusion, not quite understanding what he meant. Could they possibly not afford to pay such a high commission?
"Don't forget, I came out of the sea on my own, not because your men rescued me," Jiang Yu said coldly in Lin Yi's arms. She had long been fed up with this guy's sarcastic attitude. What was wrong with him? Couldn't he speak properly?
"I am truly grateful to you. Whether it was protecting me in the cabin, sending people around the restricted sea to try to rescue me, or even your personal appearance, you have taken good care of me until now. I am very grateful to you."
"We won't shortchange you on any commission, please rest assured." Seriously? This guy's family is so powerful, he's turned that underworld organization into a top-tier one, how can he be so narrow-minded? She's not going to run away, how could she possibly owe him money?
Keslan desperately wanted to drag this woman out of Lin Yi's arms and give her a good beating. She would defend everyone; she was always going against him. If he mentioned a sea monster, she would argue with him on behalf of the monster; if he spoke to Lin Yi and said the wrong thing, she would jump in like a mother hen, afraid that Lin Yi would suffer a loss. Was Lin Yi her husband or her son?
Why is she kind to everyone but not him?
Lin Yi didn't care how frustrated Keslan was at the moment. He casually added more fuel to the fire, as if afraid that Keslan's fire wasn't burning bright enough or that he wasn't completely mad enough.
“Chief Keslan, now that I have reunited with Xiaoyu, there is no need to trouble you anymore. You and your subordinates have worked so hard for so long, it’s time for you to rest. I will take Xiaoyu to the Van family in the Aurora Empire. You can send the bill directly to Hollandpur, and we will get your commission as quickly as possible.”
Commissions, huh? You like throwing money at people so much, you're just waiting to go bankrupt.
Keslan sneered inwardly. He was already on the verge of losing his patience. Jiang Yu was truly despicable, and even the husband she chose was extremely annoying. Wasn't she supposed to be inseparable and deeply in love? He was really too good at stabbing people in the back.
"General Lin Yi, aren't you curious about how Lord Jiang Yu managed to land safely?" Keslan smiled sinisterly.
Lin Yi genuinely didn't know; the only information he received was that Jiang Yu had been rescued, but he didn't know who had rescued her.
As soon as Keslan spoke, Jiang Yu understood what Keslan was up to. Sure enough, the next second he heard the damned man continue, "Besides the sea monster itself, who has the strength to escort Lord Jiang Yu out of the forbidden sea? Oh, General Lin Yi, you haven't officially seen that sea monster yet, have you?"
Keslan raised an eyebrow: "The culprit we all think is the apple of Lord Jiang Yu's eye, he's practically a treasure to us!"
"You really should listen to how Lord Jiang Yu introduces him: Moya is my man, I want to marry him, he will become my husband." Keslan didn't know when to stop and blurted out the most damaging words in one go.
"Oh dear, look at me, how tactless I am. You two are newlyweds after a short separation, I'm sure you have a lot to say to each other. I've kept you waiting so long, I'll leave now, you two can have a good talk." After saying that, he nodded slightly and turned to leave.
As he turned around, the smile on Keslan's face vanished completely. In the darkness, his owl-like eyes gleamed with an eerie and cold light. He silently thought to himself, "It's always the case that when the snipe and the clam fight, the fisherman benefits. Let him stir up the waters even more."
After Keslan left, Lin Yi was still somewhat processing what he had just said, so he looked down at his wife in his arms and asked, "To become partners? Who wants to become partners with a sea monster?"
Jiang Yu sighed, took Lin Yi's hand, and led him to sit down. She explained, "I really have no other choice. I want to get up from the seabed as soon as possible. He is too powerful. This is the only solution I can think of."
"He's after you?" Lin Yi immediately understood the key point. He seemed to have suddenly become much more mature and composed. Jiang Yu thought that, given his personality, he would make a scene with her first, so she looked at Lin Yi with some surprise.
Lin Yi gave a wry smile. "As your husband, I'm powerless to rescue you from the deep sea. Now you have to find a way to get up here yourself. To me, your safety is more important than anything else. Do you know how afraid I am of losing you?" He patted Jiang Yu's head, his tone worried. "That's a sea monster, and do you really know its true identity?"
“Kaslan mentioned it just now, but I’m not really sure; I’m just guessing. Because I saw King Triton’s spirit? Or rather, his soul, underwater. I guessed a little bit from their conversation.”
"?! King Triton?" Lin Yi was so shocked he couldn't speak. That was the legendary king who almost unified the land and sea world a thousand years ago. Even now, when people mention underwater civilization, they still think of that genius war madman. Even though no one knows the truth about how underwater civilization was lost overnight and how the underwater royal family was completely wiped out, a thousand years have passed, and that bizarre and glorious past is still talked about with great interest.
“He was once King Triton’s pet. Later, I heard from them that he even ate King Triton.” Jiang Yu hesitated for a moment before sharing the information she had heard with Lin Yi. “So I think he’s definitely not some ordinary sea monster. He’s lived for thousands of years, can turn invisible, can talk, can perform sacrifices, and can transform. I’m almost certain that his strength is beyond what ordinary humans can contend with.”
They ate it?! Well, no wonder no one could have guessed it; the truth is truly outrageous.
"That's why I couldn't keep waiting. At first, I thought he was keeping me like a pet, but later, I found out..." Jiang Yu didn't know how to say it and found it difficult to speak.
"He has romantic feelings for you. So you decided to save yourself this way. Is that right?" Lin Yi looked at Jiang Yu with some heartache. Under such circumstances, Xiao Yu must have made a very difficult decision.
“My choice of him as my partner wasn’t entirely out of a desire to save myself.” Jiang Yu looked up, and Lin Yi saw that her clear eyes were filled with calmness.
