Chapter 379 - 372: A Storm is Brewing
"I hope we can stop bothering each other from now on. Let’s live our own lives, and I wish you well. So, please, don’t come to our home again."
After speaking, Seth Quinn averted his gaze.
Tears welled in Autumn Shelby’s eyes. "Seth, even if we’ve broken up, does that mean I don’t even have the right to visit Uncle and Aunt Quinn? You have to understand, I’ve known you for over twenty years, and I’ve known them for just as long.
"In all those twenty-odd years, they’ve doted on me, and I’ve loved and respected them just as much. And now you want me to never see them again? Seth, isn’t that an incredibly cruel thing to ask?"
Sienna Hale glanced at the expressions on her husband’s and son’s faces. She tried to hold back, but finally couldn’t help but speak up. "Seth, even if you and Autumn can’t be husband and wife... even if you can’t even be friends, you still can’t stop her from coming to see me and your dad. We’ve watched her grow up and have always thought of her as a daughter. It was one thing to blame and be angry with her when we didn’t understand the situation, but now that everything is cleared up, for you to be like this..."
Before she could finish, Theodore Quinn cut her off with two sharp coughs. "Sienna!"
"Husband!" Sienna Hale protested, clearly reluctant to drop the subject.
But at the sight of the look he was giving her, she ultimately fell silent.
Autumn Shelby pursed her lips and said to Sienna Hale, "Aunt Quinn, please don’t make things difficult for Uncle Quinn and Seth. Since I’m not welcome here, I should just go."
As she spoke, her gaze landed on Clara Grant, whom she had hardly even glanced at before now. "Miss Grant, I’ll have to trouble you to take care of Seth from now on. I hope you can truly bring him happiness."
After speaking, she gave everyone a slight nod, took two steps back, and postured as if to leave.
Sienna Hale quickly went to her side and began to walk her out, speaking words of comfort.
Clara Grant watched Autumn Shelby’s unhurried back as she walked away. For some reason, she suddenly had the feeling of a storm brewing.
’She suddenly recalled that the last time Autumn Shelby confronted her and Seth, she hadn’t been so nonchalant, so quick to just let go.’
’If she wasn’t mistaken, Autumn had said she wouldn’t give up. That as long as Seth wasn’t married, she still had a chance.’
’So for her to come here today...’
Before Clara’s thought could fully form, a maid rushed in to announce, "Sir, Madam, Miss Chloe Grant of the Grant Family has arrived. She says she has an urgent matter to discuss with you."
The moment the maid finished speaking, Clara Grant’s heart tightened for no reason. ’What is Chloe Grant doing here?’
Theodore Quinn, however, frowned and muttered, his voice neither loud nor soft, "Could it be they all know today is a special day for our family, and they all want to stick their oar in?"
It was loud enough for even Autumn Shelby, who was the furthest away, to hear. He then nodded to the maid. "Show her in."
After all, she was Cedric Grant’s daughter; he had to show some respect to the man who had saved his life.
With Chloe Grant’s arrival, Autumn Shelby and Sienna Hale stopped in their tracks.
When Chloe Grant came in, she first greeted Sienna Hale and Theodore Quinn. "Aunt Quinn, Uncle Quinn."
"Chloe, dear, what brings you here?"
Although Sienna Hale had no desire for Chloe Grant to marry her younger son, she was still warm toward her out of respect for the fact that Chloe’s father, Cedric Grant, was her husband’s savior.
Theodore Quinn nodded to her as well and asked, "Chloe, I haven’t seen your father in a while. How is he? Is he doing well?"
"Thank you for your concern, Uncle Quinn. My dad is doing very well." Chloe Grant replied to the pleasantries, then paused. With a sidelong glance at Clara Grant, she added, "Actually, my father was the one who asked me to come today."
