Chapter 39 - What A Traitor Deserved
Chapter 39 - What A Traitor Deserved
*Jack's POV*
I waited to hear from his very own lips the motives that he have for betraying me and the Royal Pack. I slightly glanced at my father who is still shielding my mother behind. Our family who ruled the wolves for many years, had never experienced betrayal until now. Who would have thought that someone from our own pack have a deep hatred towards our family.
Alpha Zero had regained all his memories which Maleficus tried to erased temporarily. It didn't took five days like what we thought, but we were still lucky that the old wizard had a vision yesterday. Through Maleficus, my father and I knows these things are going to happen today.
"Speak now or I will cut out your tongue!
Alpha Zero shouted, his patience is lower than mine. His fist are tightly clenched on the side of his dominating figure. It tells me he is losing control and that he would strike Matias any moment.
"Matias! this is the last time I will ask you to speak, before I will let you get tortured by the pack's warriors. Or better yet hand you over to Alpha Zero, it seems like he is very upset and he knows exactly what to do with the likes of you!".
I almost spit my words in a spite, that seemed to have an effect on him, because he started to open his mouth in a quivering voice.
"I-i despised this family so much. I hated being the Beta, I never liked to follow you around and put myself in danger first before you..M-my father died protecting the King."
"But where does that take him..huh?
He died leaving my mother with seven children to take care of."
He smirked before he continues. I could somehow feel his pain and hatred. But those feelings does not justify his actions.
Then I hear my mother's gasped from behind my father and me clenching my own teeth. Alpha Zero seemed silent but the predatory glint in his eyes didn't vanish.
"Yes the King had provided us with food and shelter and being in the pack make us one of the family who didn't suffer from hunger. But no one can replace my father's love. Not my mother. Not the King..or you!
"It is not a blessing to lay our life before the Langstone family, it is in fact.. a Curse!
I took two steps and throw a hard punch in his mouth. I lost it, I couldn't stand hearing what he has to blubber anymore. He is insulting my family.
He fall back on the ground and none from the warriors help him up. But when I took the steps forward, standing just above his head, the warrior wolves followed and stay beside me. Ready to protect and follow on my command.
"Youre a fool! Your father died with honor, he laid his life for the King. He was a happy man, unlike you! Who hated every moment of saving my life, you could have told me! You could have told the truth about your heart turning black because of greed. You crave for the power that was given by the Moon Goddess to the Langstone family."
"But that power we didn't possess with just a drop of one gold coin or silver. You knew it was because of the blood spilled by my ancestors! The blood they spilled to protect this pack."
"You hated working for us? But if you are not a beta, where would that put you? A mere guard, a servant? A stable man?
"So many warriors of the pack deserves to be a good beta rather than you Matias! But because of your father we choose you, the King choose you! Because of your father's sacrifice I choose to trust you!
My words echoed across the huge hall, while the traitor that he is, laid down in the ground not wanting to get up. He let out a sarcastic laugh. I look at him and wondered where does the Matias that I used to know before. Because the man in front of me now is a mere idiot, I couldn't believe that the man I trusted and him is just one person.
"Now Matias, what do you think will happen to your family because of what you have done? Do you think they will get as previlige as you were before? Do you think the Moon Goddess will allow your family to live a peaceful life?
He stopped laughing and quickly stood up. His eyes wide and his mouth deformed and bloodied from my punch. Now, I could tell his fear and outrage mixing up.
"N-no..no..not my family."
He whispered in a pained expression. His body is trembling.
"You could have thought about that before you did what a snake would do. But you are a selfish little viper, your not a man or a wolf who deserve to be in this pack! I made a mistake in trusting you, and now you will suffer for what you did! And you're family will suffer too. Every last one who posses the same blood that runs through your veins will be branded a traitor to the Royal pack. They can choose to stay as a servant or flee as rogues!
He growled, clearly not accepting the words that I told him. It is for sure not the outcome that he had expected.
He lunge to aim an attack for me but Alpha Zero was quick, with the speed of a lightning he was able to catched Matias.
It only took one blink from everyone who’s watching when his head snapped in between Alpha Zero's hands.
A dead silence filled the air, nobody dared to moved including me.
“No..!
I was startled! my eyes almost fell out of my sockets in disbelief, it was quick and it looked painless. But when I saw his body dropped to the ground in a soft thud, and the smirk on Alpha Zero’s face. I know Matias is already gone.
“Alpha Zero!
I snarled and open my fist. “What..have you done!?
Realizing what had happened my wolf blood boil with raged.
Oh yes he was a traitor, but who says he doesn't deserve a trial like every wolf does? I couldn't control my bursting emotion when my right arm turned into the most destructive weapon of a wolf. My long sharp claws came into view.
I leaped my body high and landed on top of him, causing his body to collapsed.
Alpha Zero didn't expect my attacked. He was startled even more when I lifted my arm to follow through my attack but it was stopped in mid air.
“Son,no! Please listen to me, Matias doesn’t deserve your compassion. He deserved to die”.
My father’s strong hold prevented my assault on Alpha Zero. And that made him regained from his shocked. He pushed me away in a full force but my father was quick to alter that force, so we only backed up by a few steps. Not hurt or implicated.
“Oh, I haven’t thought you would still be in favor of your Beta!
Alpha Zero smirked and throw a spit at the body of my former Beta.
“No! You’re wrong Alpha Zero, he wasn’t supposed to end like that!. He should be in jail to contemplate for his mistakes until his last dying breath.”
“It was not yours to decide, it was mine! I am the King!
My outburst was clear, Alpha Zero have disrespected me. But we both know it wasn't just about that. Because deep inside of me there is still a tiny bit of feeling which regretted for Matias's sudden death.
I felt the hand of my father squeezed in my shoulder.
“My son, don't let the traitor win. This is what he would have wanted, for Apha Zero and you to fight. Let this argument end now. We have a lot of matter to discussed”.
Alpha Zero smirked and crossed his arms around his chest.
“I would never try to get that crown on your head Alpha Jack. It is not your crown that I wanted, I came here to only resolved the misconception between the traitor of your pack and me!
“Why were you so upset? You should have thanked me, you caught him faster. Who knows what more damage he could have inflected if I didn't end his worthless life!
I was silent but my thoughts are disagreeing..what must I supposed to do.
“Let it go son, I know this is all too sudden to bear. When you just ascended the throne and accepted the Alpha’s alliance.”
“But consider this as a first lesson, don't let one man’s death be the death of the wolves so many. Because that is what’s going to happen if you insist on Apha Zero’s mistake”.
I struggled to stood still and keep my feet glued to the ground. Then I slowly walked back to the chair that’s waiting for me. One looked at it and I almost regret the life I have as an Alpha, and now as the Alpha King.
But when my gaze turned to rest on the beautiful face of my Queen who sits beside me. And when I saw the worried look in her eyes, I found the reason for everything.
