Chapter 365 Japanese
Chapter 365 Japanese
"Don't worry about it, we're just doing this work for this little bit of money."
"Yes, yes!" The subordinate nodded in response, his eyes darting around.
Deeper into the more secluded thicket, Zhao Yang and his two companions crouched on a large tree, observing the area.
"Brother, can't we go live in town? Isn't it said that the best advantage is to be the one who waits in the wings? Why are we always suffering because we're following behind?" Ah Xing complained as he pinched a mosquito that was full of blood.
"Almost there, almost there. Steward Zhong said the cable will be set up in a couple of days. That Wang Erniu is really something. He and the magistrate have managed Huian Town so tightly that it's impossible to get in. Not only can we not get in, but the Huang family, who owns half of Fujian, can't get in either. Look over there, they're just feeding the mosquitoes." Zhao Yang held something in his hand and looked around.
"What is that? Bro, let me play with it." Ah Xing curiously reached out his hand.
"Don't move! Someone is approaching the beach!" Zhao Yang quickly put away his binoculars.
"Who is it? Where?" A-Yue immediately dropped her nonchalant demeanor.
"It's alright, Japanese, let's watch the show first. They're heading towards the Huang family's place, hehe!" Zhao Yang gossiped. The two of them immediately squeezed over after hearing this.
Five Japanese men were seen sneaking towards the shore in the distance. Their heads were shaved, some with a small braid on top, some with a small braid in the middle, and they were all ugly in various ways. However, they all had a small mustache. They were short, bow-legged, and wore short jackets. They were barefoot on the sand and held their only valuable possession, a Japanese sword, as they crept over.
"Hey, here it comes!" A-Yue shook the tree excitedly.
"Don't move, don't move, or you'll fall. Are all the people on Song Er's side idiots? How come they haven't noticed yet?" Ah Xing complained.
"That shouldn't be the case?" Zhao Yang wondered.
As they were talking, they heard "whoosh! whoosh! whoosh!" several arrows flew over and killed a Japanese man on the spot.
"Who are you? Don't come any closer!" Song Er roared.
The Japanese couldn't understand, and they charged forward in a cacophony of shouts.
"Damn it! Go!" Song Er had only brought five people to hide here, making a total of six including himself. Normally, he wouldn't want to fight to avoid being exposed, but these dwarves were too strange. Since that was the case, he had no choice but to kill them to silence them.
Song Er and his men were indeed professional fighters. They moved in as if cutting melons and vegetables. Several Japanese were no match for them and were killed after being surrounded and attacked.
"What do we do now?" several of his men asked, looking at him.
"Throw him into the sea to feed the fish! What should we do!" Song Er picked up the knife and examined it closely. "Throw the person into the sea, keep the knife. This knife is not bad."
Several henchmen carried him in pairs, dragging him towards the sea.
As they were walking, three fishermen ran towards them from the beach. For a moment, the two groups stared at each other, and several thugs put down the corpse they were holding and picked up their knives. Song Er stepped forward.
The fishermen looked left and right, overjoyed, and quickly stepped forward, asking, "Brave men, did you kill these Japanese soldiers?"
"Wow, what a fine man!"
"What a hero! You're amazing!"
The three cheered and came up, while Song Er was a little confused, staring blankly, not knowing what to think.
Seeing his expression, one of the older fishermen quickly explained, "Hero, you probably don't know this. The county government issued a notice yesterday that anyone who kills a Japanese can take the head to the county government to receive a reward of one tael of silver per head. As for the Japanese's belongings, you can dispose of them as you see fit."
"Go and claim your reward, hero! We'll go and share in the fun." The three fishermen chuckled as they watched them.
Perhaps their gazes were too enthusiastic, for the thugs were at a loss for what to do and turned to Song Er.
After indulging in a moment of vanity, Song Er feigned profundity and smiled faintly, "I was just passing by and stood up for justice. I won't take the reward. How about you gentlemen help me handle this, and I'll leave the head for you to collect the reward?"
The three fishermen were overjoyed, exclaiming, "What you say is true, hero!"
"Really!" Song Er gave a wink. This place was too unsafe, with both Japanese and fishermen. His men, having received the signal, released the Japanese and left amidst the fishermen's admiring gazes.
"We've struck it rich today!" the fishermen shouted with joy, their faces expressionless as they used their machetes to chop off the heads of several Japanese men, spitting as they did so. "You sons of bitches, you've been robbing and killing us every day, now you've finally met your match!"
The three men put the heads aside, stripped the clothes off several corpses, picked up hoes and buried the bodies directly in the nearby woods. After finishing their work, they happily took the heads to collect their reward.
"Hey, it's actually true!" Ah Xing exclaimed in surprise.
"Enough of that, this place isn't safe, let's get out of here!" Zhao Yang jumped down from the tree, and the group prepared to leave.
"Someone's coming, let's wait a bit longer!" Ah Yue whispered from the tree.
"Who is it?! This is a vegetable market! People keep coming and going!"
"Keep your voice down!" Zhao Yang tapped the nagging Ah Xing with a tree branch.
"Brother, they're coming this way!" Ah Xing didn't care at all, since it didn't hurt.
"I know, you have to say it!" He knocked again.
At the same spot, another small boat arrived, and five Japanese men disembarked. Perhaps because the previous boat had drifted away, these men hadn't noticed and came back. Coincidentally, they headed towards the direction of Ah Xing and his group in the woods, where fishermen had just buried corpses.
"We're doomed! Bro, should we just kill these guys too?"
"Alright! Let's finish this quickly!" Zhao Yang quickly decided to kill them to silence them. After all, they were Japanese, so if they died, they died, and no one would care.
Ah Yue struck first, her slender dagger flashing past and slicing off the neck of a Japanese man. She gracefully descended and stabbed another man in the chest. Ah Xing and the others quickly and accurately finished off three more men.
What should we do with all of these things?
"Let's just leave it here. Maybe those fishermen will come again, and we can give them the reward money then!" Ah Xing, like Song Er, picked up a Japanese sword to examine it. And sure enough, it was really good. He took two swords and put them on his waist. Of the five Japanese men, only three had swords. The other two had large swords that they had picked up from somewhere, and they were all rusty.
A-Yue was very disgusted and went to A-Xing to snatch another knife.
After searching them and finding no silver, the three men immediately left.
Inside the county government office, Magistrate Zheng looked at the heads brought by several fishermen with curiosity. The Japanese were very difficult to capture, let alone behead. They came and went like the wind, grabbing and running away. Often, when the soldiers arrived, all that was left were dead villagers and a scene of utter devastation.
"That's wonderful!" Magistrate Zheng was extremely pleased and excited. As expected, Madam Chen's method worked. The problem was solved with just a little money. No matter who killed them, the Japanese were definitely dead.
The county officials all gathered around, staring at the severed heads, feeling both hateful and infuriating.
"Let's go to the market! I'll take you to collect your reward money, one tael of silver per head!" Magistrate Zheng rolled up his sleeves and led a group of people toward Commandant Wang's residence. Passersby on the road, watching the excitement, all gathered around.
"These are the Japanese! How can they be so ugly!"
"Exactly, no wonder he's so wicked!"
"Die well!"
"Damn it, I spit on you!"
