Chapter 1020 The Tamed Ones
Chapter 1020 The Tamed Ones
A sudden, loud noise shattered the silence. The sound seemed to come from afar, as if it had erupted outside the cave.
Jiang Jiyun looked on in astonishment, her gaze fixed on Jiang Wenming beside her. She asked incredulously, "Has my brother and the others already started their operation? How could it be so fast?"
She had thought that her brothers might have planned this surprise attack, but she didn't expect it to come so suddenly. And weren't they supposed to be rescuing the people in the cave?
Even if she knew they had come in, how could she and her uncle have rescued everyone so quickly in such a short time?
Not only were Jiang Wenming and his nephew Jiang Jiyun shocked, but even the three men who were lying in wait, Jiang Jiyuan, Xiao Tian, and Xiao Wei, were also dumbfounded. They all stared wide-eyed at the place where the flames were soaring into the sky in the distance.
The scene before them left them bewildered, completely unable to figure out what those people were doing.
Xiao Tian looked at Jiang Jiyuan with suspicion and said, "Brother Yuan, are these guys planning to kill each other? But why are they making such a commotion?"
Faced with this bizarre scene, Xiaotian couldn't understand the reason behind it.
Jiang Jiyuan witnessed everything that was happening in front of him, and the corners of his mouth couldn't help but turn up slightly, revealing a smile that he couldn't suppress. Those people might have encountered some terrible teammates.
Not long ago, they witnessed a procession driving empty horse-drawn carriages toward them.
Immediately afterwards, the group of mysterious figures carried out box after box of heavy items from the cave entrance.
Just as Jiang Jiyuan was planning to send Xiao Wei to monitor these people's actions, an unexpected turn of events suddenly occurred.
No one could have predicted how things would turn out. A scream was heard, followed by chaos and then explosions.
In an instant, the peaceful situation was disrupted. The frightened horses dragged the wagons full of supplies and ran wildly, disappearing from sight in an instant.
Jiang Jiyuan took out a note from his spatial storage, read the contents carefully, and began to write on it.
Jiang Jiyun glanced at the note, her lips twitched twice, and then gave it to her uncle. Actually, she quite liked that he had such a teammate.
Just then, she caught sight of a group of people carrying weapons, tiptoeing towards the direction the two men had just left in.
She quickly tugged at her uncle's sleeve and followed closely behind.
What came into view were rows of gloomy and terrifying cells, each door tightly closed, but a stench and nauseating smell emanated from the cracks in the doors.
Jiang Jiyun saw that there were many innocent people imprisoned inside. They were huddled in a small, dark corner like livestock, with empty, lifeless eyes and haggard faces.
In front of each cell door were old, dirty stone troughs that emitted a strong stench of decay. Upon closer inspection, one could even spot small white worms slowly wriggling inside the troughs.
The horrific scene before him tore at Jiang Jiyun's heart, sending waves of pain through her.
boom! boom! boom!
Wow!
"Wow!"
Several sounds of chains hitting the ground were heard as the soldiers, armed with tools, smashed the chains to unlock the cell doors and rescue the people trapped inside.
The noise was so loud that it alerted the people patrolling nearby.
The patrolmen rushed over upon hearing the noise, only to be tackled to the ground one by one by the soldiers who had been lying in ambush, their necks broken or stabbed wildly with bayonets.
Faced with such a chaotic situation, Jiang Jiyun couldn't help but feel a headache coming on.
Things developed in a way that completely exceeded her original expectations. Her original plan was to first drug the enemy and then secretly send her own unconscious comrades into her space.
Once they have escaped safely, they will release the rest of the group.
However, given the current situation, it is clear that the original plan cannot proceed.
The chaotic scene left her somewhat bewildered and unsure of where to help.
Yan Hexian looked at Jiang Wenming with a serious expression and asked, "Comrade, are you confident that you can get them out of here safely?"
His gaze was fixed on Jiang Wenming, as if trying to find a definite answer in the other's eyes.
Jiang Wenming followed Yan Hexian's gaze and saw a group of people huddled together, trembling uncontrollably.
These people had no courage to stand up, as if any movement would bring about their death.
He shook his head helplessly and sighed, "Look at them like this, how could they possibly escape on their own?"
Gu Tianlun, who was standing to the side, couldn't help but chime in, but he suddenly choked up when he got to the point.
After a long while, he slowly said, "They have been imprisoned here for too long, and have suffered countless torments and tortures, both mentally and physically... Now they are exhausted and vulnerable."
When he said the last few words, Gu Tianlun's voice was clearly trembling with tears.
Jiang Jiyun also gazed at the group of men and women who had their heads bowed and dared not look directly at others, and a sense of sorrow welled up in her heart.
She frowned and analyzed in a heavy tone, "These Japanese devils have obviously subjected them to cruel enslavement training, to the point that they are now extremely afraid of the outside world and are unable to communicate normally with people."
"It will probably be a long and difficult process to reintegrate them into society, but we will take them out safely."
What she didn't say was how these people would survive after they left.
"Sigh... let's just leave it to the higher-ups to deal with." Jiang Jiyun took out a few sticks of incense.
Xia Jin saw what she took out and asked, "Are you going to offer this to the Buddha?"
Jiang Jiyun sighed and explained, "This is a sleeping incense to help them fall asleep quietly. When we send them out, we won't make a sound and they won't be frightened."
Jiang Wenming took out the antidote and said, "Take the antidote. Don't fall asleep too, or we'll have to fight them off when they attack."
Yan Hexian didn't want to doubt it, but looking at the two people, one big and one small, and then at the several cells which together must have over a thousand people, he couldn't help but feel a sense of unease.
He couldn't help but ask, "Why did you take so many people with you? Haven't your men arrived yet?"
Jiang Jiyun stared angrily at the "painted face" and said to them, "Uncle, if you don't trust the people you employ, you shouldn't employ the people you don't trust. If you don't trust us, you can take them away yourselves. We'll go somewhere else, but I don't know if we'll have enough time."
Xia Jin grabbed Yan Hexian, took the antidote, and turned to leave. As he walked away, he said, "As long as you can get them away safely, we will try our best to delay them."
Jiang Jiyun and Jiang Wenming lit short incense sticks in their hands and walked back and forth in front of the dozen or so prison cells.
As those people gradually fell into a coma, Jiang Jiyun entered the cell and discovered something unusual.
She called out to Jiang Wenming, "Uncle, come quickly and see if there's anything wrong with those two men?"
